hey guys,
just got a chance to finish up my gray trex-x i bought and screwed the thing up on my first flight!
i forgot on my futaba 9chps that you have to go negative on expo to make it softer,i dialed in postive 20 which made it way too sensitive.
i looked like a newbie, the heli drifted right i countered left and in a matter of two seconds the tail hit the ground.
only broke one tail grip and cracked the tailcase!
i couldn't stand the amount of slop and binding the x tail had anyway.
what all would i need to make the tail better?
i don't want to spend 100 bucks on all metal at this time, just want something better that is free of slop and doesn't bind!
do i need to get the xl tailcase, slider and blade grips?
thanks
rich

Try this:

If that dosen't fix it you can't go wrong with the MH Pro Tail.

It's the original V2 X? Great launch platform IMHO. If you're anything like me, it'll morph into something like this over the next year:

Wes @ modefos has the full metal tail for around $70 I think. Well worth the investment. There's an updated tail linkage kit from Align too but I don't think it's been coupled with any of the tail sets yet.

thank's for the info guys,i have a friend who hopefully has all the stuff to upgrade mine to an xl tail assembly.
i will go all metal eventually, just would like to get some more flights in before i do that!
by the way how much expo are you running on your trex's?
my evo 90 i am running 20% expo and fly's great, but being a smaller heli i wasn't sure if i needed more expo?
i am running hitec hs56 servo's.
i haven't oversticked a heli like that in 4 years,i flew my buddies trex and had it hovering inverted and flew great for me.(that one flight has me hooked on a trex)

Another option Rich is to just go with the new tail linkage and hub set with a new plastic case.

Here's the version with the plastic blade grips:

MicroHeli Tail Case w/metal slider and metal support works well for me But If you want Zero slop get the Pro Version.

well a good friend gave me all the parts to fix my trex on sunday.
put everything back together and took it out for a hover.
i can barely control this heli, all over the place and spent most of the time just fighting to try and hover!
i know it must be all in the setup because i flew my buddies xl and it hovered great for me!
i am running 30% expo and was just trying to hover in normal mode.
too much expo?
not enough headspeed?(not sure what the headspeed is yet)
i have -9 to + 9 for pitches.
basic trex-x,aon 3500 motor,hitec hs 56 servo's,gy401 gyro,berg 7 rx,tp2100 lipo pack,315 wood blades.
any thoughts?

Have you leveled the swash? Need to get the endpoint interaction down to a minimum. Back down the expo to 15% the expo is nice but its easier to get into trouble with too much. What size pinion r you running and whats the throttle curve set? Might try 0,75,75,75,75 norm and keep a full range pitch curve, pinch with your finger/thumb and a neckstrap for the start. Check the AFR setting for pitch, ali, ele, all three shouldn't be too high. After initial setup you can back them down also to soften the quickness till you gain higher confidence.

Check those ball links!
If the ball links are too tight though out the head you will have extra load on the servos and lag in the response. I like to always use a JR ball link sizer to make sure the links are just right. They snap on but are very easy to move around on the ball.

i am running an 11 tooth pinion.
it must be that the links are too tight,if you move the swash using either elevator or aileron the swash does not return to center.
i just figured after a few flights they would loosen up on their own.
i will try and bump the throttle curve higher in normal mode, just keep in mind that i have been flying nitro for 4 years and this is my first electric heli!
is there any way without buying a ball link sizer to get them to fit better?
i don't mind getting one but none of our local hobby stores has any at this time.

well i lowered my expo to 15%,and changed my normal mode curve to 0,75,75,75,75.
i had about 8 extra ball link ends,i just kept changing them around till all the ball links were fairly loose fitting.
flew two flights yesterday and flew about 70% better,i was able to hover decent.
the only thing that bugs me is the blades keep going out of track!
that gray head has so much slop in it where the feather spindle goes through it.
a ton of up and down play,if you grab the one blade you can move it up and down probably a good 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch!
i have had the head apart two times now and everything is assembled per the manual.
i asume this is the reason why the xl's have two orings and a metal collar, compared to the one oring and plastic spacer on the trex-x?
does the xl head have much play in them with the double orings and metal spacers?

First part I upgraded on my 450X V2 was the head... I went with the metal head and flybar cage.

well don't laugh at me,but i put on a set of wheel collars as flybar weights!
they made it much more stable, won't know for sure until i get it outside and start flipping, looping and rolling it.
up until now i have only hovered, can't wait to take it outside and fly the crap out of it!
would have flown it outdoors on friday, but we had wind gusts up to 50mph!
it will take some time to get used to,going from a 90 series to this.
thank's for the help.
