I was at the hobby store today. Bought a New new Futaba S9254 servo.

I was thinking that, for some reason I had a 9252 in my tail. The plan was to move that 9252 up to the throttle, and put the new 9254 in the tail. Well, guess what? I already have a 9254/ 401 combination in the tail.

So now, the question is, where should I put this 9254 and get the best performance? I am currently running standard 3151's throughout. Slow, weak, sloppy. I would be afraid to have a super fast throttle servo, and really slow pitch servo, and vice versa.

So I have heard that high torque digital servos consume a lot of power. Will it even pay off in the long run to put this in?

Should I take it back to the store, install it somewhere on the heli, or stash it as a spare?

If they won't take it back, I'd keep it until I could upgrade the others or the one on the tail goes out.

Either: Take it back, stash it for later or a lot of people put them on throttle.

If i were you i would change it for a 9252 or even better a 9255 to put on your collective. If you do find you are stuck with it, I'd put it on the throttle as its not really up to the job for cyclics.
They do draw more current than an anologue servo but as long as you have a reasonable pack that you keep and eye on, you'll be fine.
My r50 with digitals give a safe five flights on a 1700 nicad pack.
Dont worry about having a fast throttle and slow collective is this is the best way to have it, however if you are just changing one, always go for pitch first as an upgrade. A 3151 has about 3.5kg cm torque and a 9252 6.5. This will be far more up to the job. It will be crisper in collective and less likely to balloon in FFF.
Alot of people who dont run governors just use a standard servo for the throttle. A 3151 would be ok for this.

I find that very hard to believe.

As for the servo, hang on to it. Tail servos don't last forever.

You can get a governor like a Multi-Gov or Curtis ATG and put the 9254 on the throttle. Most gov's work better with a fast servo. Then it really wouldn't matter how slow your collective servo is.

Why buy?? when you can borrow and no return
