Do the zinc-based cold symptom relievers like Cold-Eze work for you?

Not a total cure, but it does seem to help.

Danka, doods. Both remedies are candidates, starting right now with the Cold-Eze. I rarely get colds but when I do even Cuervo may not be potent enough to smack it down.

I find the key is to start as soon as you feel the first signs of a cold. The sooner you get started the better. I also use it when I feel like I've been exposed.

cold eeze work great for me if i take them at the first signs and keep to the dosage...they just leave a horrid taste in my mouth. also, take a vitamin c in the morning and at night and a multi vitamin at lunch...

and KEEP EATING. if i dont do anything and just roll with a cold, it lasts about a week and a half....if i do these things i generally suffer moderate symptoms for 1-2 days and then nothing else happens...

also, there is this thing called airborne. its a big disolving thing you put in your mouth when you suspect anything coming on. its gotten really good reviews. but i shouldnt have to worry about anything this year. i took these packets of powder (penicillin) in BMT and i havent even had an upset stomach, headache, sore throat or anything since then.

well, one thing we know for sure is that there's no cure for cold.
Good news is, cold doesn't kill.

I believe best solution is to keep yourself fit. Nothing better than a good immune system to fight off cold.

Short boost of immune system activity may help, but it ain't the solution. Also, not much research is done on these remedies, so they might not even help boost immune system.

When I turned 65 the doc said I get 'flu shots for free. Have one every year and although they have absolutely no effect on colds, I haven't had a cold for the last 3 years??

Here is an email my wife got... dont know if it is true or not. I am sure someone will look it up.

I need to warn you about a product on the market and hopefully you will pass it on to as many people as possible. I felt like I was coming down with a cold last Friday and because I'm around sick family members so much I wanted possibly head it off. I used Zicam, which is a gel nose spray which claims to keep a cold from becoming "full blown." Immediately I had an intense, horrible burning in my nasal/sinus passages. The skin on my face hurt to touch and I had pain and burning so that it hurt to move my head. My husband was here and kept asking if I wanted to go to the ER but the thought of getting in a car was overwhelming. My face was burning hot and my nasal passages were so swollen that I couldn't breathe through my nose and I could see the swelling when I looked in the mirror. It lasted for about three hours and it was Labor Day weekend and I couldn't see a Dr. until Tuesday. I have seen two ENT specialists in the last two days because I have lost, totally lost all ability to taste or smell. They both told me the same thing and suggested an immediate course of action. This is called "chemical trauma' and most times is permanent. I'm going to have a CT scan on Monday and am on a high dose of the steroid, Prednisone for two weeks. If there is even a thread of the olfactory nerve left, it will help to rejuvenate what is left. I have been on the Internet (just put in Zicam) and there are hundreds of people who have had this happen. I am so angry and devastated and saddened right now that I don't know how to get through this. I cannot handle the thought of never tasting food again or trying a new recipe or smelling a Thanksgiving turkey. Cooking has been an absolute passion of mine for as long as I can remember and at the moment I don't see the point of even putting dressing on a salad. I keep thinking that this cannot be happening to me. I suck on a lemon, bite down on a clove of garlic, smell a bottle of ammonia, nail polish remover, anything. I'm starting by telling people I love. PLEASE don't use Zicam, tell your friends.

i dont get sick often, but the last couple times i have, i ended up with phnemonia....not fun, i have had it twice now, the first time put me in the hospital.
now that i know the signs of it (normally starts off as a cold), its because i'm not getting enough rest. so the first chance i get, i sleep as long as i can till its gone. a few days of 12 hours or more of sleep does wonders. i dont take anything for a cold, just lots of rest. its just hard to find the time to sleep that much is the problem.

Friggin odd night.

I've never had a 24-hour flu before but I think I just did. Chills, sweats, fever, hallucinogenic dreams. The GF said I was talking in my sleep and that I kept saying, "Open the Padmé doors, Hal" and then chuckling out loud.

We'd been watching the Star Wars flicks recently. I must've been thinking about Anakin getting Padmé pregnant. I must've been imagining Anakin's 'opening line' on that first 'special night' as being "Open the Padmé doors, Hal," a spaced-out reference to 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Is that friggin strange or WHAT? Question is, was that the Cold-Eze talking or the fever??

also, i have very halucinagenic dreams when i am sick as well. i vividly remember my dreams on a regular basis, and the sick ones are always the wackiest.

the chill/sweats is the worst though man...
