I installed an ESky 4-in-1, a 9T pinion motor, and 11.1v 1320mah lipo on my Blade CP with stock tail. Is the 9T pinion and 11.1v ok for the ESky 4-in-1? It does smell like heated plastic after a few minutes of hovering.

Gino I have been using the 9T with the lipos for over a year with no problems The only thing is I use the sym blades rather than flats... You will get more lift with the flats.

That's a monster battery. But I often fly around with a 1200 myself.

My E-Flite 4/1 gets a little warm too. It starts letting the plastic stink out after the first battery, but I've had dozens of flights on it since the last time I repaired it. In fact, I usually have to reset it after a couple minutes of flying because the gyro starts to drift (I guess from the heat).

I've asked a lot of experienced BCP pilots (at least, ones who know more tricks than I can do), and they usually agree that even a 10T is okay with a 3-cell Lipo. E-Flite makes an eleven-tooth; I wouldn't use that with Lipo, but if you're using a fuse like a lot of BCPers do, it wouldn't hurt anything to try. I suspect it'd be okay if you were just flying around and had the discipline to stay off the collective.

I doubt the 10T consensus. That's how I burned my 4-in-1. That is why I am concerned with 9T too.

Well.. today I was doing some loops and rolls with flat blades and a 9T. I was using that 1200 battery. Not that that guarantees it will work for you.

Well it didn't work. The 4-in-1 fried, fets shorted, heli piro'ed full speed crashed into a swing, broke the tail boom, damaged the blade. Now I am grounded. Duh.

The manual says 9T is ok for Eflite. I guess it is not for Esky. D_mn. I was using an 11.1v 12c-15c. But I was told that wasn't a factor. Oh well. A guy just can't get a break. Just a broken heli.

I use the esky 4in1 unit.. with no problems with the same setup as you. The only factor that is different possibly is a bad 4in1 unit... or a wiring problem shorting out something.
I even run very high headspeed so the 4in1 unit is flashing while flying.. Is your 4in1 full red when flying if so you are overloading it and it will burn out. I always set my full throttle so the unit juust flashes at full throttle....

You think that my 11.1v 12c-15c lipo had nothing to do with it?

I fixed up the heli and she is in good shape. Just waiting for the new 4-in-1, 11.1v 1000mah Esky lipo, and symmetrical blades.

It's not the 11.1 lipo and the 1200 mah doesn't matter The c rating is high enough so your not over discharging the battery. I think your running your 4in1 in the red while flying and that will kill the unit fast....

Getting the pitch set right so you don't have a red light on while flying normal. If you go into 3D then you will get a steady red light with the stock tx....

But my pitch is set to zero. How come I am the only one afflicted with this problem.

Something is not right with your radio or setup or wiring... It can be fixed but we just need to find the problem first.... Look everything over carefully and post what you find. I know you think it's all right but something is definately wrong with your heli on the electrical side...

Seems to be a bad motor. When I went back to my 7.4v setup, the motor quit on me. It seems to have dropped a brush arm. I hope that is the problem I am looking for.

Have you tryed an 8T pinion with
the flat blades and Lipo ?
I'm running the E-Flite 800 mAh 11.1 V
lipo with 8T and flat blades. Then I am
only Hovering at this point in my skills.

That seems to be the best pinion for flat blades and 11.1v. But I still want to use symmetricals and 9T is the reco. It seems I cannot go symmetricals qith 11.1v until I sort this out.
