This has been crossing my mind for the last few weeks but have been either to busy or sick to get around to it checking it out. What I was thinking was I have an extra Evo 90 head from the swash up, so I've been thinking that the radius block might fit. Last night I was comparing and realized that everything from the swash plate up to the radius block looks like it would fit. Really there's not much difference except the Evo 90 stuff is built more solidly. I broke out the dial caliper and all looks pretty much the same so I think I'm going to try it. Has anyone done this? If so how did it work out for you? Well, guess I'll find out and let ya'll know!

There was a post not too long ago about somebody who put an X-cell head on an EVO 50. It worked great from what he said.

marc8090,
Yeah I remember reading that thread but I think the Evo 90's head is to big for the little Sceadu. What I meant was using the swash plate, mixing arms and radius block. I'll see how it works this weekend.

Oh yeah, it's wider. I'm talking about just using the swash plate, mixing arms and radius block. Looks like it'll work so I'm going to give it a shot.

The swashplate, washout assembly and radius block will fit. The EX upgrades for the 50 and 90 show the same part #'s for the swash, and the X-spec washout base and radius block are used on many EVO 50's, including mine.

Update: I changed everything out and then went ahead and put the tail from the Evo 90 on(shaft, grips and blades only). Had a set of QUK flybar stiffners so added them also. Took her out yesterday to try it out and WOW!! Nice, very smooth. I like it quite a bit. Have a bit of a tail wag going on but will work that out. Otherwise, I really like the feel of it. Just thought I'd post an update incase anyone else is considering this. Very worthwhile.

Subsailor> I had a Freya Evo before and tried the wash-out assembly and swashplate that came with my Sceadu Evo OP. and comparing it with the plastic wash-out assembly on the Freya Evo they look pretty much the same EXCEPT for the RADIUS ARM which connects the wash-out arms to the inner balls on the swashplate. The RADIUS ARMs on the Freya Evo seems to be shorter than those on the Sceadu.

Maybe its safe to say that from the swash up to the wash-out assembly, the Sceadu and Freya are interchangeable with exception to the RADIUS ARM. No change/adjustment to the linkages were made.

Hi Lewd,
Hmmm, well I changed everything out from the swash up to the radius block. I did go back and redo/re-adjust my linkage etc, got it all squared away for correct pitch etc. Took it out the next day and it just flies wonderfully. I'm not an experienced enough pilot to explain it to well but it seems much more...smooth, in control?? I did have to turn down my ATV's as well as my pitch curves because I ended up with quite a bit more pitch/throw for some reason. Holding the two assemblies side by side the Evo 90's is more robust, just built more sturdy with almost zero play in it where as the orginal Evo 50's had quite a bit of play. I really like the setup and won't go back. I thought it was a worth while upgrade, for me anyway.

Hi John

Yep, that happened to me when I just swapped the wash-out assembly on my Evo50 with the Evo90, I had to adjust the linkages to make it square. Only to find out later that the radius arm for the Evo50 is longer than the Evo90, which meant I need not adjust if I switched the radius arm. And yes, the one for the Evo90 is more robust. Also comparing the metal wash-out assemblies for both helis, they're also similar with exception again on the radius arm. Also, the metal wash-out arms for the Evo90 uses flanged bearings while the one for the Evo50 uses standard ones.

Yup, that's the best upgrade to start with. With my all plastic Evo90, changing just the swashplate and wash-out assembly to metal ones made a significant difference. Goodluck!

John,

I found that pic on the http://black-pro.net/ website which also happens to make the body (Black Shark III).

Given how the Freya Evo parts worked out for you... I wonder what you would see by incorporating some of the other bits?

I have the Freya Evo elevator arm assembly sitting on the bench, thinking about putting that in a Sceadu (I can't afford the EX version $$$).

Sorry for such a misleading reply.

Nice work BTW!
