Found the 30.5" rotorspan Blackhawk 500EP (with brushless electric motor only) for $170... belt drive.
My Shoguns gear drives are causing me troubles. I want belts. Do I simply upgrade the Shogun 400 V1 to V2-status or get the $170 bigger bird (seems a Protech 450 clone). Lipos are almost twice the price for the Blackhawk 500, heli is nearly twice the weight (~10-13 more amps is a big deal for Lipo price).
FMA co-pilots will go on two of these (I need a stable, yet easy to fix bird for my Dad).
I think Hobbylobby sells a stock V2 kit for V1's for $60, not bad.
Helidirect has a CNC 50tooth belt gear and CF-like frame with front motor mounting (on metal plate) for $55, belt would be another $5 (the 432tooth for 50T gear), I have their previous 32Tooth belt upgrade, not installed. Looks modular & easy to work on, who knows. They don't state the boom diameter in MM. I know the V2 is like 10mm outer, larger than the V1, so I'm worried I need a boom and tailcase, not that they cost alot, just want all the bits.
Seems upgrades are cheaper. Is the stock V2 belt without a tensioner?? I mean does the "tail clamp" set the belt's tension (because I see aftermarket parts with the tensioners I wonder I they are needed or recommended for belt life).
Any help is great, thanks in advance.
