I'm with Lorents. For me it's a very Zen/spiritual moment. What athletes call "being in the zone."

I don't like people talking to me, or standing next to me, even though somebody usually does...i just like me concentrating totally on the heli, maybe some music on my ipod...

"I hope the old man got that tractor beam out if commission, or this is going to be a real short trip."

Seriously, I remind myself I have the time and the money to rebuild it if I total it. Calms my nerves greatly.

I keep thinking clutch engaging smoothly, then about the tail blades, then I move slightly to one side so it doesnt kick at me should a blade fly off, then I test the cyclic make sure all works good, then I kick the tail back and forth, then I blip it back and forth to find the sweet spot, them bang, 3/4 stick, and up she goes.

The voices in my head can beat up the voices in your head.

Great thread
I am like you, Lorents.
While spooling up my heli all pressure and hassle from work, kids and wife suddenly are gone.
It's just me and my "toys"

"Why did I go and pay for this, when I have a wife at home"

"I hope this isnt a sting operation"

"are the kids sleeping"

"she better not bite"

"Fort Apache, The Bronx"

"Left hand, or right?"

"Will hair really grow on my palms if I keep doing this?"

"Please last longer than 2 minutes this time"

"Is that the dog licking my feet?"

When flying my heli, pretty much all of the above except I am not calm and I do not have to choose upright or inverted
