Hello Guys

i've been tinkering with the idea of geting into aerial fhotography, but prety much just trying to do this just for fun and see what this leads to,well anyway heres the deal,i got this Pentax
Optio S60 camera last year as a Xmas present,i've used it mostly to take pictures of items that i sell here,i have used it just for close ups most of the time,

but just a couple of days ago,my daughter had an outdoor concert and i thought, hey lets take a few pictures, well i am very disapointed in the quality of the pictures, seems the camera likes taking nothing but closeup pictures my wife bought it at costco,

im sure i could just take it back and get something better, any ideas?i dont really like returning stuff but this camera was going to be used for just about anything and now that im thinking about aerial fotography this would be ok to get me started, heres acouple of pictures, see for your selves

i played with it and played with it and this is the best i could come up with, boy am i disapointed, and now i have to go through the embarresment of standing in line to return a Frigging year old camera, the camere is still in like new condition and i kept everything that came with it including the box and all looks brand new still, but im not a big fan of returning things,oh well

you get what you pay for

The right picture was taken using the sports mode? What ISO did you use?

Unless it is damaged, it should do a lot better.

This shot was taken with a 2 generations old S4, biggest problem with it is granyness but works great for cheap AP. I have an S6 that is slated to replace it along with a better mount.

The S6 is junk. I would take it back if I were you. Look over on rcgroups, you will find threads on the S6 being a piece of junk for ground and even worst for aerial. I have had the S5 and others and they were a million times better. Read all the unhappy folks with the S6 over at rcgroups. There are many better cameras. Look at a Canon A620, A630, or A640 series for something to replace it. A great performing camera for any conditions. You can read about those cameras in threads over on rcgroups also.

Picture taken with a Pentax Optio 50L in sports mode and 100 ISO. I would use 80 ISO instead (It was sunny enough) but have had no chance to do a second flight.

I've tested the S6 side by side with the S4, and is is slightly better (only) with respect to noise.

I use it because of the IR trigger and it's light weight. The Canons are too heavy for my ship.

Too bad I didn't know about the S5 being better, too late now anyway.

I have taken over 500 images with the S6 on ground, and think your review might be a bit overstated. The pentax definately has it's limits that is true.

If I had a bigger heli, I would be using a bigger camera, but my niche is the small stealthy machine.

Please re read the question he states Optio S60 not S6 or S4.

Try Landscape mode.
My mother had an S60 (dog ate it)
The picture quality wasen't that good and a little to grainy.
But try landscape mode I had better results than sports mode.

Your sample photos were taken at night (I think) and with that sort of light a tri pod is needed for any camera.

i tryed every thing and still didnt do too good, yes the picture was taken at night,i havent really tryed it doring the day on the landscape mode, most of the pictures i've taken with this camera have been close ups and they look great but do not take pics far away in either mode because they'

ll come out like the pics i posted,i dont know much about cameras and now that your saying that for night shots you need a trypod for any camera, then i should give it a chance and try it in daylight, cause the strongest reason for geting this camera was so i could use it for aerial fotography,in not too serious about aerials, but i love the idea and if this works for me than im going full bore with it

by the way,Stet, like cjperry said my camera is the S60 not the S6
im not sure wich one came out first or wich one is better but i heard good things about both the S6 and the S60,im not sure im using it properly but i think i should use it more often to find out for my self,

however i havent had much luck with it and this is the reason for this topic, like i said before,im not a big fan of returning things
besides it is too embarassing for me to stand in line at the customer service counter, seems like they look at you like you stold something,LOL i hate that

heck if it sux, return it, I would

I don't need to reread anything thank you. I am sure they are all based on similar technology, kinda like the Canon compact vs the larger units with similar features but larger plastic cases.
