I'm looking at the eraptor 50 sized kit.....what kind of things would I need besides my 611 gyro/servo, and i will get a spektrum 7 channel when it comes out (includes 4 jr digital servos(or should i buy w/o the servos and get some hitec servos)...well, besides that, what would I need to run electric, and does electric equiptment last longer than nitro?? Also, would a 12s system be alright for a beginner(I can hover pretty good) if I take it easy?????

Yea, I see you know everything but can see why kids love cinnamon toast crunch????

1. Building and set-up skill!

2. Electronic/Batteries are costly when crashed,
mis-used or applied.

3. IMHO, I would factor in the cost of crashing (12s damage).

IMHO I don't really see where there's much of a difference in cost of a 6S2P and a 12S1P (same number of cells) 12S is not a big problem except in charger cost, anyway, you'll want a more powerfull heli someday so you'll need a good charger. The new TT 620SE hide the pack inside the frame so they are protected, that's one of the features that I like in this heli. In my swift I use a CF plate to protect the pack and it did saved my pack in a crash.

A brushless motor will last certainly longer than a nitro one, but a lipo is variable in life depending on brand and usage. Personaly it costed me more when I was flying nitro (high fuel cost here).

Thoughts on Battery Alternatives
An alternative to Lipo has been kicked around and posted here on RR, and in RCGroup. To quote:

You could use a 10s2p a123 setup with the Z80A-800 and a 17T or 18T pinion and it will have good durations and decent power.

For a beginner this is the way to go.

btw.
most of the new 6s setups are 1p. so the cost difference between 6s and 12s is quite large.

The GY611 is way overkill – save your money and buy more batteries.

If you get a E550 use a 6s or 8s LiPo setup.

If you get a E620 use a 10s LiPo setup (slightly more power than an OS Hyper and about the same weight – depending on the batteries you select).

611 is overkill if you are a beginner or on a budget, otherwise it is awesome and the end all of gyros for things to do, a CSM 720 is said to be very good well as a top line gyro. A well setup 50 electric has more than just a little bit more power than a OS Hyper50 imho, I own more than a few to know this. A powerfull 10S setup is more like a 90 size and beyond imho.

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...
