A lot of the trick is in the rudder commands. The biggest tip I can tell you is to make sure( as you roll ) when you are at level inverted or upright you need to be slightly nose down to maintain FWD speed.Rolling circles tend to go to hell when your speed bleeds off.At first I would break it down into a 2 point or 4 point roll to make a complete circle.Or you can do rolling 90 or 180 degree turns and then bail out to upright flight. The hardest point for most guys is the last quarter of the circle where the heli is coming towards and then past you.It is very disorienting at first.

I find that it's easier to start with just elevator and aileron and then work your way up to including the rudder. Trying to learn all 3 things at the same time can really get you messed up.

Make no mistake about it, these can be hard to learn especially if you try to learn all 8 ways. (Clockwise circle rolling right, clockwise circle rolling left, counterclockwise circle rolling right, counterclockwise circle rolling left, backwards clockwise circle rolling right, backwards clockwise circle rolling left, backwards counterclockwise rolling right and backwards counterclockwise rolling left.)

What kind of pitch setup do you run when you do rolling circles? Would it be easier if you run less collective pitch say +/- 6 degrees? (Idle up 1?)

i have idle up 2 pitch curve at 0-15-50-85-100, this gives me the collective i need with less stick movement. i find that if i move the pitch stick a lot i tend to feed in some yaw, and with this type of manuaver the pitch stick is always moving.. just the way my fingers move,.. what i need on the radio is a wider dead band in the yaw stick center. idle 1 is linear, and i just switch between the 2.

Thanks for all the tips guys.

I put some time on the Reflex last night and I think I found the basics somehow. Initially I put the time factor on 3 so I have a realy slow motion. This gives me the time to find out my mistakes and correct them and see what the basic stick movement should be.

This method helped me realised how piroflips are working and recently I started making them in the real life as well.

What I found out is that I should give small inputs on elevator while upright and inverted in order to maintain the forward flight as I am rolling.

Finally it's crucial the rudder input and where it's been given. For example if given while knife edge bigger correction is needed with the elevator.

I'll keep practicing them on a slow time factor for some time in order to memorize the inputs I should give in its stage and then fasten thinks a little.

Hi Guys

I am working on these too on the simulator, and want to check my technique--at first I think I was doing it wrong, as I watched my ultimate heli 3d with alan szabo at the sticks and I think I picked up some tips...

But anyways, It appears from watching his dvd, you give elevator commands to turn while knife edge, and rudder when level upright or inverted? And I guess the trick is also a slight amount of elevator when upright/inverted to keep the heli moving? I found though, by giving elevator when knife edge, it tends to keep going (at least better than how I was doing it lol) Oh yes and then there's the collective...hehe so many things to think about!

Thanks,
Nathaniel

I can do backwards rolling circles on simulator without having any problem . But when it comes into real I am loosing too much backwards speed and I don't have any idea about how to maintain it .

I find sometimes on the sim I give small elevator inputs without even knowing it....I have to concentrate really hard to keep the stick where I want it....that was my "old" method though...but yah have someone watch you fly maybe you're putting in a command that you're not aware of.
