My Daughter (20yo) has a pitbull that sometimes stays in a 12'X 12' kennel in my back yard. When I fly and the dog is in the kennel, it gets very excited but I've never before worried about it...though the barking can be distracting. The kennal has 6 foot chainlink but no top.

today I'm cruisin the back yard with my frankinblade...having a great flight (turned the head speed up to 2400 after putting on brand new control rods with new ball links...reducing slop some). Anyway, the heli's fffing at about 4' and going into a right turn when my peripheral vision catches movement....

the dog jumped out of the top of the kennel, ran across the yard...I gained maybe 2 feet (6 foot alt..maybe) before it jumped...snatching the heli out of the air. I hit the throttle cut switch emediatly but the dog drove the heli into the ground and mawled it like a rat before I could set my TX (JR6102) on the ground and grab his collar. he dances around while I'm pulling him away and he steps on the transmitter scratching the screen rather badly and bent the antenna.

Yea...I beat him but the damage was done....

list...

CF blades w/tooth punctures
shattered brand new Yellow BCPpro canopy
Main shaft
tail blade
boom
frame
RX (two tooth puctures)
Esky flybar control frame
one paddle and the flybar

...thought I would share my grief!

The most dramatic crash yet. I had a cat give my CP the bad stare and I pulled away. Caught it on video but resolution is bad. The cat scene is towards the end...

By the way what does fff mean and all those movement acronyms?

The trouble with pitbull dogs is they need a VERY strong person (dominate personality) to train them and be the alpha dog. Most people are way to busy to spend the time and effort to train and care for a dog properly these days....

exactly Tom, I knew this and also knew that my daughter didn't have that time or patience. Its a beautiful animal and really quite sweet but ....TONS OF ENERGY.

Dad may know best....but sadly is not listened to often enough. Owning that dog has not been a good thing and I really feel for the dog. It's not really fair to the dog..... what the hell am I saying....the dog should be drawn and quartered...

...BUT...

I'm in trouble cause they found the small pieces of the broomstick in and around its kennel. It got a nice bath tonight and is sleeping on my daughters bed right now.

Sorry to hear that..Three things that HAppend to me
OK so on a sunday morning, I woke up took a bath and ate some breakfast.
It seems like another boring sunday....(but it will get more interesting during mid day)
So the first bad thing that happened...our clock was not set back into normal time. So thinking it was eleven(but really it's still ten) I thought I would go to my local flying field and see my friends fly here in HOuston. So I went, then, when I was about to leave for me to go to my local hobby shop I asked what time it was... my friend said "it's 10:40 an and I was like "what?"...Then I found out that the time was change...DST. So I stayed for awhile in the field and then when IT was 12 pm I left...On my way to the hobby shop, 3 miles away, a cop stopped me..."Oh my God...what did I do.....is this going to be my first ticket ever?" So I stoped and wondered what I did...The Cop came into my window and asked for my License and registration. So I asked what in the hell I did....then he told me..."A car similar to yours is wanted..and so I pulled you over but I dont think it's you..." SO he went back to that trooper and check on my clean profile...and then he went out again and Gace me back my stuff and told me he was sorry about it.. And to my relief I thank God about it. SO I got there in my LHS and bought all the things I wanted....Got home and fixed my Blade cp and fly it...IT was a bit windy and all...but I didnt mind it...Then suddenl a gust hit it and I was Right above a car..and then uncontrlolably it was upside down and then PAMMM!!! Hit the ground inches away from my neighbors car....Good thing I didnt hit his car...then I thank God it O dodnt hit the car...but my blade was wreked...I mean so wreked...Blades are in half..LIpo bats are bent(but still works) LAnding gears are in figure eights and 4in1 controler was craked..... haha good thing I keep all my old and damage repairable parts...so I got it all back but not as perfect as it was.. my old blades are unbalanced so I got a tape and balanced it. My new main shaft was bent is I got a long nose and got it straightened back with unnoticeable shakes...So Im back flying in minutes and landed verry Good.....At last my BAD day is OVer....
SO all in all..I got the time wrong, almost got arrested and get a ticket, and crash my heli so bad for the first time it was so wreked...

What this all means for me is that my own back yard is no longer safe to fly in. One of the only reasons I keep my bcp going is the ability to step out back and fly freely in that rather small place.

I'm questioning the wisdom of rebuilding....leaning toward my mini's...one of which needs a GY240....just like the one on my now crunched blade.

Don't let the dog run you out of the yard... It's yours and he is the dog, I hate to say this but it's time to put your foot down and get your daughter to deal with the dog or get rid of it, either way I think you will win your yard back......

That's just being the best dad. There are just some things you do or tolerate out of love.

In my book, an animal that is caged is not a pet.

I put the knife on your nightstand.

I was flying really high once and I lost orientation and I dont know how to fly nose in so I lost control and hit my next door neighbors van. Glad they didnt see it and nothing happened to the van And only the control links popped off so I was lucky. Good thing I had the carbon blades on and not the woodies.

*SNIFF* ahhhhh..the smell of fresh new blades *SNIFF*

At times I feel it would be nice to wield that type of power you speak of in my home but I believe the price would negate the gain.

My daughters beauty is matched equally by her tenacity. I fear my "foot" is no match for the task. The dog has done worse. While my wife and i were out of state at a national horse show, it jumped into both of a pair of brand new Ethen Allen leather chairs and marred them noticably.....that was weeks ago and dog remains (wifes foot is not up to the task either...). It won't be long now and Whitney will be gone off on her own. No toys or chairs are worth risking a bad seperation.

I've seen matching chain link tops for these kennels. I'll look into one tomorrow.

I've kept this little bird flying for sixteen months now. It will fly again and look good doing so. I have spare parts for everything but the RX and CF blades.

Thanks for the encouragement!

BTW Gino, I tend to agree about caged animals. The dog spends most of its time in her bedroom but needs its time in the sun also. The dog is not mine, nore would I ever own one like it!

Yeah, the mind of 20 year old is a can of firecrackers. There you have a mind struggling to make sense of hormonal changes, an uncertain future, and a rapidly changing environment. You don't want to mess with that. You just wait for things to settle down as they age.

don't blame the dog
Just had to post. Pitbulls are not mean dogs. It's the owners that make them that way. I have one and he's a big pussy cat. Loves everyone and wouldn't hurt a fly. I would never cage a dog. And these small kennels are horrible for pets. Put yourself in a cage and lets see how you react..

Oh yes, always pick your battles, very good rule to live by. My father in law gave me that advice years ago and I have lived by it, that's probably why I'm still alive. When my 2 boys were teenagers they became a handful, that whole male thing that boys go thru, Well I wanted to choke them both at times but decided to let it ride....
Today the oldest is a staff sargent in the Marine Corp 6 years now and the younger son is is in the computer electronics field both doing well and happy as I am too.....Things will get better....

Tom..... No "D" flying....
