Man why does that seem so familiar?????
Because most do it that way.Even the "outlaw" call-it-like-they-see-it-mags turn into shills when they get big enough. The funny thing is that new guys come and see me fly at the field and ask questions.I tell them what I think and they will question me with garbage they read word for word in an add or worse yet a review.I'm thinking in my head "I bet I can fly the guy who did that review into the ground, but because it is in print in the flashy hip new magazine-it is word sent down from heaven."

I was implying more along the lines of some RC helicopter forums...

Remember when flying inverted that down is up and up is EXPENSIVE!

Hi raptorheli2
on the point of the subject, i have yet to see a magazine review worth a toss,
l stopped buying them years ago for that very reason even though my mate writes some of them. l read one that raved about the MDS engines and that was enough. lf anyone can show me a review that say this is a bad heli, servo or radio etc. l`ll start buying them again.

I'm telling you guys, they most likely got a bunch of different guys together that owned different helis, and then the reviewer/writer flew them all,,

anyone with half a brain would not test 4, 5 or 6 helis with different motors and different electronics !!

Maybe there is an opportunity here for some of us to put together a "rogue" publication with good production values, and articles that are willing to criticize.

I think we are on it.Lots of sifting to do though...And when you say what you really think-you get branded a troll, hater,or basher by the loyalists who may or may not have sponsor affiliation.

can i write a synergy article...CAN I, CAN I, CAN I.....PLEASE

tosh, on the point of MDS, i know people to this day that like those engines. i bought one years ago in a limbo dancer as it was the thing to have. what a POS. i took it out and a mate put it in a heli with a heli head and i swear it was a different engine. it ran flawlessly for about 2 yrs with old crappy castor fuel. i seen a few in nexus helis that were actually not too bad was that engine (nb the term not too bad is meant lightly..VERY!). the thing was it was bungle from rainbow that done the QC at MDS, i hear he works for a heli manufacturer now.

cheers

Don't count what these reviews are saying. It's only which company will give the most money.

Also these people that are making these tests are at least ignorant on what they are doing since as you said the equipment was different in each heli.

The best judge for a product are the consumers and the volume of sails.

Actually I would love to see some "real life" used heli reviews. Bear with me a moment Think about it, fly 5 different 50 helis, and do an initial review. A few months and a case of fuel later, review the same helis. Maybe throw in a couple of crashes for good measure. There are a couple on the market that are decent after one tank of fuel, but loose as Paris Hilton a case later. And lets face it, most of us want to know what a heli is going to be like a case or two later. And no, I'm not curious what Paris is like after a case...

I give up on Loctite, nothing lasts long enough to vibrate loose anymore.

I'm glad I'm not alone in my opinion however just to be clear, when I said I haven't flown other 50's, I meant other 50s outside of the Raptor and Raven. I know it annoys people (myself included) when people say one heli is better than another when they have only flown one. That's why I didn't compare the Raven to anything else, but I stand by my claim. The Raven is a better machine than the Raptor out of the box.

It's like a movie critic - they never get it right. Personally I prefer raptors, some prefer sceadus and others prefer, well others. Who cares what some underqualified journalism jackass sais. This hobby is about fun and, by god, I'll fly what I like to fly. The hell with him!!!

The best way to make a small fortune in RC Helis is to start out with a large one. Debt from above!

The magazine I have to laugh at the most (even over RC Helis) is Rotory! Always WAY positive reviews followed by a large (usually full color and full page) add for that very product either in the middle of the "review" or right at the end.

Heck, I have seen quotes taken directly from the add right in the review like the author wrote them. Of course, given that it appears the advertisers WRITE the reviews for Rotory (and just for the record, I have seen at least incident where that was EXACTLY the case!), the author just might have written those works himself...

Pure junk. All wrapped in shiny, heavy weight paper. A complete waste of a tree!

Probably the best (in my opinion of course!) is Model Helicopter Technique. Not the prettiest (by far!), but definitely the most down to earth. And you generally don't see advertisers always snuggled up against the articles either.

I agree with the above 100%

Guys, I think that everybody here have to write a e-mail to the RC Heli Magazine Editor in Chief and tell him his review $UK$

So how many would support...
... a website setup just for reviews. I got an idea for one. The basic idea is a website of reviews of people that actually payed for the helis they are flying. Support would come from donations. Would have to be moderated, but I think it could be fair. Anyone game?
