I am just about to replace the red TT dampeners with Infinavation on my Raptor90 (w/alu hub). I planned to remove the centerpiece in the hub as many have recommended this.

But I just found out that there is a "tuning kit" for these dampeners! What do I gain getting this kit?

Untill I get this tuning kit, I want to install the dampeners as is.
Should I remove the centerpiece or keep it untill I get the kit??

The tunning kit contains a harder durometer oring to be placed on the red insert that goes into the head. You can either remove or leave it. Running the tunning kit does not mean that the center piece has to be there or not.

Maybe things have changed, but when I installed mine, Infinavation said NOT to remove the pin unless I installed the harder o-rings from the tuner kit.

Also, you may want to have some MA 8mm shims in .5mm and .25mm thickness on hand as the stock grip shims can pinch the dampers too tight into the head block and cause a pretty nasty wobble. I have shimmed both of my 90 so that when the spindle bolts are tight, there is no play and the dampers are not be pushed into the head block. Stock shims are around 1.75mm thick and I think mine are shimmed at 1.25mm now.

The tuning kit contains O-Rings which are just made from a slightly harder material - It mainly stiffens the head dampening further again.

I'd try it with the original o-rings and then maybe try the slightly harder ones and make a note of the difference. The tuning kit is not required - it is mainly provided as some may prefer slightly harder dampening on the head.

The centre pin may be removed with either of the o-rings utilised - As long as you are running the Innfinavation dampers, the centre pivot pin can be removed safely.

Now, the reason the pin was being removed was to minimise any RF Metal to Metal noise. Some people were having trouble where they would get PCM lockouts (mainly experienced on one of the Futaba PCM Rx's). This was traced to some RF noise being generated by the pin in some instances. You will now note that you can purchase an insulated pin from EastCoast helis to replace the alloy one - This will stop the Metal to Metal contact.

I (and many others) have never experienced this problem, but as a precaution I also run a small amount of alluminium conductive paste between the spindle and the pivot pin's contact surface to prevent any metal to metal type intermittent contact.

Please read through the posts in this thread. They discuss head setup, infinivation dampening, and the background behind the pin.
