Anyone know how to do a "hard reset" on a JR 10X. I need to do a total reboot/brain wipe on my 10X.

My 10X finally went south. May need to sent it to Radio South to bring it back. Before I do I want to at least replace the backup battery and hard reset it myself to see if it comes back.

Swapping the backup battery out (it is soldered in) my actually accomplish that. But I'm wondering if anyone out there has done it.

The screen looks ok when powered off but when powered on all pixels come up black. What I mean to say it the LCD is not heat fried black. It just comes on to all pixels black. The touchscreen is completely non responsive. No beep when touched. The main processor functions are good cause it is still transmitting and controlling the last model I had set it to. It also chirps when you hit the trims and will complain if powered up with a switch out of position so I know the processor is up.

It is as if the "user interface" processor is busted. I just wanted to give it a full brain wipe and replace the Back-Up battery on the outside chance it might come on back.

I have had it up "drying out" just in case it was moisture related. The next-to-the-last place I used it was in a very humid drizzle at the Wings Over Houston airshow. I did use it once after that event but on the outside chance it was moisture related I have it parked in between my 2 very warm server boxes at home for the last few days.

Any help appreciated.

Hey,

It's a stab in the dark, but could the screen contrast just need adjusting?

Okay... Initial guess is that the touch screen has gone Tango Uniform.... this could be why the screen is black ( Full Contrast due to knackered touch screen [the touch screens do not react kindly to high moisture areas]).

There is no "hard reset" as any system reset is done through the touch pad.

Cant check the diagrams till Monday now, but... are you confident enough to strip the 10X down ?

Plenty competent. Have had it completely to pieces and back already.

Already plugged/unplugged and cleaned all contacts on all connectors.

Let me know what to look into.

Many thanks in advance.

Remove the touch screen and look very carefully at the edges, does it look like there has been any contamination ?

I will look at it tonight. I did initially see what looked like moisture in between the mylar of the touchscreen. It did however "dry out" and did not come back afterwards.

I believe it is the standard touchscreen constuction using conductive imprinted mylar with latex seperator beads. It did cross my mind that as the "user interface" processor initializes it clears/sets all the pixels then "hangs up" waiting for the touchscreen to become "unpressed".

After I get to it this evening I will let you know.

Many Thanks.

Mark, I think you are right on the construction

And as the CPU is "seeing " a permamnent contact, it can't do anything else.

You have a scope there ? It might be worth scoping the keyboard lead, again this info is not with me.....

Yup. I will scope it. I should have tired it with the keypad unplugged. I will do that as well.

I just fixed mine. all the pixiels faded after i got some rain on the radio, and the touchscreen shorted...
I opened it, and split the touch laminate carefully open, just lifted it so I could put a cigarette paper in there to soak out the water. Don't open the laminate more than you need to put in a thin paper. I had to use an exacto knife to open the laminate.
If it is water causing your touchscreen to short, then this might work for you too....

Update
Great news!!

After 5 days between the warm servers at home it came back.

When I picked it up last night to work on it, I touched the screen and it beeped!! The LCD was still black so I pressed the contrast spot in the lower right corner of the display and it came back to normal. Just as ROX33 stated except mine shorted where it sets the LCD to full contrast.

So... Here is the scenario for anyone else who ever has this issue:

Moisture contaminated the touchscreen in the lower right corner right where you press to darken the screen. Upon powering on, the touchscreen would just drive the LCD to full black and not respond to any other touch events so the screen and display just seemed KAPUT. Once the touch screen dried out, it was just a matter of adjusting the contrast back to normal.

Thanks for all the input guys.
