Anyone have any comments or complaints on the SA? Now that it's out I was just wondering what the overall opinion on it is. I thought this might be an easy way to get an overview for all of us considering it.

The only complaint I have is that I want to convert my XL frame to the SA frame and Horizon has released the heli without bringing parts support up to speed. I talked to a Horizon rep the other day and was told it would be December before full parts support would be available. Seems backwards to me.

I had just installed servos in mine last night and find that the inner race of the swash is a little loose allowing a little up/down movement.

I think for the money its the best kit out.
It is the same design as the SE. I actually like the aluminum frame better then my CF one on the SE.

The swash is plastic over metal.. kind of a mix of the really good and the cheap.
I think time will tell if it holds up... but the balls look like Stainless steel even on the swash.
Also I like the aluminum head that came with it .... So I think the SA is a little up grade from the XL kits

Oh yea!
No little case came with it ........but then again it was put together and could not fit in a case.
Over all the the design , already being built and the up graded parts make it a good trade for the case.

This information is not correct. All 450SA specific replacement parts (including the aluminum frames) have been in stock for some months now, most well before the arrivial of the helicopters themselves. One of the only items not currently in stock is the full aluminum frame conversion kit for XL helis, which is never really required to support the 450SA itself since you would rarely need all of the included parts, regardless of how bad a crash may be.

We are very, very aware of how important parts supply is for all helicopter models that we stock, and we have stocked up for the 450SA accordingly. You can see the full listing of parts, including stock status, for the 450SA under the "Parts Listing" link on the 450SA product page.

Please PM me with the name of who you spoke with at Horizon so that we can be sure they are brought up to speed.

I stand corrected. Upon further research it appears that parts support as a whole WAS considered by Horizon which is in my experience the way that Horizon usually conducts business. There was an apparent misunderstanding concerning the complete frame kit not being available till December and not the bulk of the spares for the SA.
I apoligize if my comment was construed as a gig against Horizon.

Kudos to Horizon Hobbies!! Many smaller shops carry all the parts support for the SA. In fact, my cousin turned his XL into an SA/SE hybrid many months before the SA was released. Now with Horizon in the game, the SA (along with parts)can be purchased as a kit. Also, Horizon also supplies other local hobby shops so we are not limited to shopping on line. Gotta lov Horizon for staying on top of the RC Heli hobby. Horizon and Align will be a great combo for the future of Trex owners!!

The case isn't really an issue. I never understood why they shipped it in the little case that wouldn't fit the finished heli anyway. Dumb move on their part IMHO.

Never figured that one out either. When I saw the case and ordered my XL I thought cool, a free case. Then when it arrived I couldn't even fit my micro in it.

I didn't say they were worthless. Just not as good of a marketing decision on their part. The little ones should have been the optional cases.

I agree. As soon as I figured out that I didn't have a heli that would fit I found other uses, spares, batteries, tools, etc.. Anywho, the SA looks like a good move and as soon as the frame kit is available I'll convert my XL. Having cut my teeth on aluminum framed helis, Kalt Baron .30, GMP Cobra, Horizon .60, I like the idea. In a crash, if frame plates are bent either straighten them out or replace them, cheap.

Let's get the opinions back on track
Just pulled an SA out of the box last night, and I am impressed so far. It appears to be assembled well enough that I'm not going to take it apart to see if everything is Loctited, just go over all the fasteners to snug them. I'm going to try the new Futaba 3154 on the tail, which so far is the only area of the bird that appears to need a little attention to eliminate minor binding (links and guide are tight). The canopy will take longer to finish than putting the gear in it. I have to wonder though, why are the frame spacers and washers anodized blingy blue but the aluminum rotorhead hub anodized non-bling grey? I didn't expect/desire the blue anodized stuff on this product since most the option parts are now available in grey. Pretty amazing that you can have this level of heli ready to go in an evening after my XL CDE experiences.

I totally agree with you!!!

I just got the SA last night as well, after inspection I found that it was extremely well put together. Just a few (slightly) tightening here and there, but overall its ready to go!!!!

There was another post on here somewhere about the rudder control rod and the boom support rods not being glued. Double check those points.

right. be sure to glue the rudder pushrod caps and the caps on the boom supports. the boom supports had been glued but came appart easily, and the rudder pushrod had no glue at all on it.

I saw that post, and I am going to convert the zbend to a ball link on the servo end of the rod as well. The zbend works fine on thick control arms, but it can move up and down in the hole too much on the thin ones.
