One day, June 6, 1944:
Total Allied casualties on D-Day are estimated at 10,000, including 2500 dead. British casualties on D-Day have been estimated at approximately 2700. The Canadians lost 946 casualties. The US forces lost 6603 men. Note that the casualty figures for smaller units do not always add up to equal these overall figures exactly, however (this simply reflects the problems of obtaining accurate casualty statistics).

Casualties on the British beaches were roughly 1000 on Gold Beach and the same number on Sword Beach. The remainder of the British losses were amongst the airborne troops: some 600 were killed or wounded, and 600 more were missing; 100 glider pilots also became casualties. The losses of 3rd Canadian Division at Juno Beach have been given as 340 killed, 574 wounded and 47 taken prisoner.

The breakdown of US casualties was 1465 dead, 3184 wounded, 1928 missing and 26 captured. Of the total US figure, 2499 casualties were from the US airborne troops (238 of them being deaths). The casualties at Utah Beach were relatively light: 197, including 60 missing. However, the US 1st and 29th Divisions together suffered around 2000 casualties at Omaha Beach.
Only a small percentage of the casualties incurred during WWII. Freedom comes at a price.

I'm quite grateful that I don't speak German today. And I don't want my children to have to learn to speak Arabic any time soon.

Pete,
I think he means that if we wouldn't have gone to war against the Germans we would be under their control instead of free and if we didn't or don't go to war against the Arabs we'd end up under their control instead of free..

thanks...I know what he meant...( i did have a lil history way back in my days you know )

I just find it interesting that it is believed that would be the case had we not gone to war...its purely speculation.

Had we secured our borders, unified our micromanaged agencies (I believe they call it homeland now ) deport illegals, expired visas, etc...instead of going to war and creating more terror...we would be speaking arabic?

come on...

but then again...we are around the corner for this...press 3 for spanglish!

So purely speculation against purely speculation? thats a great argument in the making! lol.

I can purely speculate too that if that was what we did instead, there would be more countries out for blood on us than there is now because they would see us and big babies and that we're only looking out for ourselves and protecting ourselves.

At least we showed the world that we care and want to make it a better place and that Americans are so dedicated to that fact, they will give up their lives for it!

BTW, I would just like to add, that its the terrorist and scum bags thats the ones doing the killing, just in case anyone forgot
