What I mean is the manual says up to 18K RPM but is that max rpm or is that where she's the happiest or what? I'm trying to figure out the best head speed for my Eagle II 98 with 9.5 gear ratio. This is not a 3D bird so don't want or need 1850 but do want to try and keep the engine in the meat of it's power band if possible. Thanks for the help.

Probably 1800, maybe 1850, once you're getting towards 1900 the engine is starting to scream and hitting 18k rpm.

I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of ST1-1750(16625rpm)
ST2-1825(17337rpm). I'll give that a try and see how she feels.

Got one in my raptor 50 i'm now running 17740 giving me a headspeed of about 2087 i have run a headspeed of 2300/19550 on the st2 handled it ok but you could hear it was way beyond its peak power, 17740 in the raptor using 8.5 ratio and 600mm blades seems to be the happy spot,

I'd try a max headspeed of 1850, remember you're swinging 680 or 700 blades you could probably get away with tuning it for a headspeed of 1750, just listen to the motor when you throw the eagle about if it loads up to much try increasing the headspeed,

You didn't say what exhaust you were using?

Do not use an hatori sb16 and a gov, took me 6 months of chasing all sorts of problems that pointed to a bad auto bearing to a bad gov, changed back to a 80/90 size muscle pipe problem gone.

A YS61ST-2 in a R50?
How did you manage to shoe-horn it in?

I have got a R50SE and a spare YS61ST-2 that I retired from the bigger helies.

Any pictures and advice of how to do this?
I am more then interested.

Thanks for the info Daren. I'm using a Hatori pipe but it is not an SB-16, I think it's something like a 544??? Anyway, I took it out yesterday, had ST1 at 1750 and ST2 at 1825. I was still able to load up the head in ST2 but my engine is still running a little rich as I'm cautious on break in. Think I'll crank it up to 1850 and lean it out a hair more and see what I get. Didn't get to do much testing as I had a boom strike while practicing autos! Damn.........
