Every other current major contender I've seen fly has been via video except for Steven Gerrard and our hometown boy Alan Szabo Jr, but I'll still say with confidence (and more than a little hometown pride) that Alan is surely in the top five. I believe he's quite capable of placing first in more than one major event over the next 12 months. And Gerrard is certainly one to watch.

I believe also that Alan's brother Danny is without a doubt in the top ten, and that there will be quite an interesting brotherly rivalry between those two as Danny gains ground on Alan's high level of finesse over the next few years.

The years to come are gonna be flippin' sweet all over the planet for pilots and spectators alike in 3D RC heli competition, for sure.

That's a tricky one particularly now there is so much young blood coming into the sport. There's also the issue of the definition of 3D flying and the kind of styles that are currently in vogue, I say this because it is such a rapidly evolving sport and every year we are seeing new moves and new ways of hurling the heli around as well as the fact that with modern technological developments, helis are becoming far more capable than ever before.
As for the new young hot pilots; in order to get to the top and remain there, it requires enormous amounts of dedication, staying power, support and so on. For the youngsters (or anybody), this can be difficult because of other pressures/requirements/stuff on their life. Curtis is so successful because he made it his career as has Jason and a few others, but we are only talking of a minority. Those young pilots that are going to college or university may well find that study pressures hinder progress with flying; this I imagine would keep them clear of the top spot.
Although Jason had a different agenda at 3DM, I would have loved to see him compete as this would have shown his talents and abilities within the confines of the competition. Another angle I find interesting is the machine a pilot flys. I am very impressed with the performance of Andreas Rummer, so neat and precise, but I feel he is let down simply because an electric doesn't have the extra WOW factor that nitro has - I reckon it does make a difference to the perception of a performance.
Duncan, Scott, Alan, Danny, Steven, Nir, Chen etc are all superb pilots and the one that holds the top spot will be he that has the greatest commitment, application and luck with the job in hand.

Only time will tell???
No one can predict the future
unless they have a time machine
or know a very good fortune teller?
The competition environment of 3D helis
is changing!! I am not sure for the better?
i.e. Safety and spectator draw/interest.
With todays current group of young talent
I don't think there will be a dominate winner
year after year.

At IRCHA 2006 I thought Nigel Brown did an
awesome Saturday demo with his Sneregy N9
and Curtis put on the best night demo that
I have ever seen with his JR Vibe!!!
But I enjoyed all the demos day or night.

Opinions will vary

I honestly think if we made a list of the Top 5. Anyone one could be the winner of any event of any day. Just who had the best weekend.

But Skill and personality, I have my bet on Alan Jr to replace that Curtis we all remember in the past? Thing is Curtis will still be around for a long time to come. And truly no one will ever replace him for what he did for this hobby.

Each time I've seen the Szabos compete, they have not been flying anywhere near their true potential. Plobraby the same for many pilots where nerves and performance discapline are major factors.

My vote would be for two young pilots stepping it up big this coming year. The ones too watch I believe will be Steven Gerrard of the UK and Nicholas Maxwell fron Indianna, both pilots with extreme amounts of talents in micros, electrics, and nitros. In my opinion they are a triple threat in any contest due to the depth of their flying skills across the board.
