My Spektrum DX6 always worked so flawlessly in my T-Rex SE that I had to try it in my 600. Everything seemed fine during spool-up so I lifted the T-Rex 600 into a cautious 1 foot high hover. After approx. a minute I lost tail rotor control and then cyclic/collective. Luckily the motor shut down and the helicopter floated back down with no damage.

After changing my shorts, I quickly re-installed an R149DP rx and my T-rex 600 functioned perfectly with my 9Z transmitter. I don't have a clue why the DX6 locked out. This is the first time it locked out on me after hundreds of flights in many different models.

Glad to hear that there was no damage to the heli atleast. You have no idea at how hard I'm laughing right now! Glad you got some clean shorts on though. It's funny, my friend just installed the DX6 in his trex and it works decent but every once in a while he will experiance a glitch or a lockout of some sort.

I had this happen with my SE. Never could find the problem. When it happened to me the tail acted out of trim and I had to fly the tail until I got back on the ground. When I landed I noticed that the 401 red light was flashing and I never took it out of hh. This leads me to beleive I lost power for a split second. I am using the stock Align 35amp speed control and the 430L motor. Since then I have flown about 5 packs through it wiht no problems. The only thing I can think might have happened is that the transmitter voltage was down to 9.6 and maybe this was getting to low. Don't know for sure. Chuck

9.6 volts on the tx is fine. That shouldn't cause any problem at all.

I've got FOUR Trex 600's.

All are on Spektrum (in a 6102). No problems at all.

Check your wiring and power source(s).

Good luck.

I checked everything very thoroughly before and after the incident. Could not find anything out of the ordinary. Everything worked perfectly once the radio was changed back to my 9Z/149DP.

I'm completely puzzled because my DX6 system has been completely reliable ever since I bought it earlier this year. I'll try again when the new Spektrum system becomes available.

well thats kind of pushing it using a spektrum with a 600 and not doing the 6102 mod to it... its not deisgned for birds that big. I would have used the 9Z from the beginning!

3dwanabe,

Where do you have the AR6000 rx located? I installed mine on the rear lower shelf with antennae dangling below the CF frame between the landing gear and have had 0 problems with this bird. I don't want to experiment with shielding issues of CF but wonder about it- short antennae and lots of CF around.

Spektrum is working fine in my 600. I have the receiver installed at the back end of the bottom tray and haven't had any problems. I have the reciever in my SE installed in the same location.

As for shielding, both of these helis have a very poor range check from directly in front of the model with it on the ground. Range checks fine from all other angles. I believe that the reciever is just being blocked from the front by the cf frames and the motor/battery. Never a problem in the air though.

DX6
Guys, I'm just getting back into the hobby after 15 years or so, and wanted to know more about the Spektrum and why I couldn't use it in my bigger planes, heli's, etc.

I saw somewhere that the current design of the reciever can't handle the high current loads of more powerful servo's. That's why it comes with the miniture stuff. The new version for full size is listed as coming out in December.

Am I all wet, or does this have some validity?

I'd really like to have this technology to fly here at home.

The AR6000 can handle standard servos just fine. A rep said so here.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3754682/tm.htm

He also mentioned that the reason for not wanting them in big rc aircraft is...

"It is possible to exceed the range in larger aicraft."

The stated range on their website is 1500 feet for the DX6/AR6000.

DX6/ T-rex 600
Gentalman, The DX6 is designed for micro and mini helicopters. The limitations are related to signal attenuation/ blocking caused by conductive materials found in larger models, not range. While many customers are sucessfully flying the DX6 in the T-rex 600, it's not recommended. The newly relesed DX7 is perfect for this application and in fact I have about two hundred flights on two T-rex 600's using the DX7 with flawless results. The faster than PCM responce rate gives a more connected feel plus the more sophisticated programming (5 point curves, gyro screen, stunt 2, etc.)makes it ideal for this machine. Check out Spektrumrc.com for more details on the DX7.

fwiw..

My DX rx is buried in the frames of my alu. frame 600...I run 6975 digitals, 401/9254, and a 6v. Medusa bec...Works flawlessly!
My guess is a faulty rx, as some of the units I've worked with did have binding issues...Was a range check done prior to lifting the heli off?

adams,

What technology changes did Spectrum incorporate to overcome the limitations of the DX6 class of radio? Any changes to rx (more antennae (or larger), more transceivers, etc)? Changes to tx (more power)?

Other than 7 channels what is the difference from a 6102/DX6 mod?

Thanks

Those two little wires coming out of the back of my 600 is where mine is located. Did the 6102/DX6 frankenstein and have not seen one problem. I have put this set up in a wing and have flown it to the brink of no return. Would use it over and over again. Not buying the DX7 either. I'm also thinking its best to wait till something even better comes out since the current set-up is working so well. My .02

Hi guys,

just curious about the Spectrum. Does the transmitter have all the bells and whistles of other high-end helicopter transmitters? Can you see graphical curves?

Just wondering...

It's easy to find an excuse to do wrong. Hard is not to find an excuse to do right.
