TP 1010 w/ 210 or an alternative?
I recently purchased a Trex 600, moving up from a little Blade CP Pro. The Blade included everything I need, but is a toy compared to the Trex. I'm now slowly acquiring everything I'll need to get the Trex up and running. I'm also finding out how much I don't know about the hobby yet.

One thing I need to get is a charger/balancer combo. I've heard good things about the TP 1010 w/ 210 balancer, but that's going to run me around $300. Are there other options out there that can safely charge/balance batteries like the Align 4200/4600, Evo 4900, TPX 5000?

I don't want to buy a piece of junk that could end up burning my house down, but I want to see what else is out there before I spend my money.

Can you charge at a higher rate with this like you can with the 1010C and 210? My friend charges his TP Prolite 2100's at 2C with his 1010C and 210. This is a very inviting feature.

What size packs and number of cells are you using?

Have you looked at the FMS Cellpro/Balance Pro?

I'm wanting to charge two Align 6s2p 4200 mAh packs, and will eventually move up to the newer Evo and TP packs.

Do you need an adapter to use the 210 balancer with the Astro 109?

The TP charger/balancer may be your best option. Shop around, I think I got my setup (1010C/210) for about $250-260 or so.

Also, plan on a power supply if you plan to charge at home.

The E-station 902 is also a good choice, with dual PB6 balancers it can charge & balance up to 12S. It have all the features of the TP1010, plus external load discharge up to 200W and USB port to look at your discharge/charge curves just like a CBA II. I written to the manufacturer and they should release soon an upgraded firmware to charge A123 batteries. However it is a bit more expensive, around 400$ for the charger & dual balacers. As far as quality goes it should be the same as the TP1010 as I heard that they are the manucfacturer and indeed when both are put side to side they look like cousins

I have to admit, I'm at a loss as to what to get. I've checked out a few different options:
• TP 1010c w/ 210v
• MRC Super Brain 989
• Astro 109 w/ Blinky
• e-Station 701 or 902

I want something that can charge not only my two Align 6s2p 4200, but also the BEC lipo, a radio battery and possibly my little 3 cell CP Pro lipos. It should be able to handle the bigger packs like the TPX 5000 and EVO 4900 too.

The e-Station 701 looks interesting because its a balancer and charger, can handle up to 8 cell lipos and can charge lipo, li-ion, NiCd and NiMH. Anyone had any experience with it? Did it include a power supply or would I need to get one for it?

The 701 does not balance, the BC5 does, but it's limited to 5 cell lipos or 14 cells ni-mh. It doesn't include a power supply, here's some two power supply on ebay

The 701 doesn't balance? HeliDirect's description is misleading (or confusing at best) then. They're calling it a balance charger.
Would I need to get a balancer like the TP 210 or would something as simple as a Blinky work?

The 701 will monitor voltage of up to 8 cell, but won't balance, the helidirect website is wrong. The TP210 or blinky will work but eh BP6 can connect to the 701/902.Raptor e620 w/V-bar, Tango 45-06, Phoenix 85HV, TrueRC 12S1P 4000mAh

I ended up buying the TP 1010 charger w/ 210 balancer from RCHover. Now I just need to get a power supply for it.

Thanks for the help and information everyone.
