I've been flying my modified Trex SE for a while and developed a nice confort zone which includes figure 8's with occasional flips, rolls, and loops. I want to make a Lepton my second ship but I would like to know how it compares to my Trex SE.

How does the Lepton compare to my Trex SE as far as flight characteristics? Maintenance? Flight times? Stability? Handling wind? etc...

I plan on the following setup:

Axi 2826/10 on 24t pinion
CC 60 or 80 ESC (not sure but I have both)
Futaba 401 or JR 410 gyro (not sure yet but I have both)
4S2P 4000 TP Prolites
HS85MG servos for cyclic
Futaba 9253 digi servo for tail

Any info would be appreciated.

I have a Trex and a Lepton and they both fly totally different. The trex is offcourse alot more nimble due to its size. I run about 2700+ HS so maybe that's why it flys so nimble. The lepton on the other hand, is very stable, due to the much larger rotor disk; yet can maneuver very fast if you want it to. It feels like it is more precise and fly's like it is on rails. It does not pitch up in FF or FFF like the Trex does on pro woodies. Also, at first I was intimidated when the trex used to spool up, but after hearing and seeing the Lepton spool up, its a whole 'nother beast! Both are great birds and I like them equally. I'd say the only drawback to the lepton is the need for a much larger flying space.

Lepton setup:
24t pinion
Hyperion Z-3025-12t with Stuka's fan mod
Jazz 80-6-18
Futaba 3102s for cyclic
Futaba 401 w/9254
Viper 90 CF tail blades
4S EVO20 lipo

With this setup, I get about 2550 RPM in a hover @ 80% throttle (GOV mode). I only fly about 6 minutes and put back only 1500mAh back into the lipo. Obviously it can go for much longer, probably 10min. Motor is only 115-120*F with ESC and battery not exceeding 103*F I love this setup.

Trex versus Lepton is about as different as Jack Daniels and water. They're both liquids but that's where the similarities end.

The Lepton can actually stay in one spot with reasonable accuracy while the Trex is more of a gnat on steroids. The Lepton is really a different class of heli. Both machines have their positives and negatives but the Lepton rivals a few nitro machines in the power and accuracy department because the servos are a little bigger and more accurate, the controls are designed in the usual Hirobo way, with accuracy in mind and the typical Hirobo attention to detail.

You would expect all this and the price to match and you won't be disappointed.

I just picked up an Axi 2826/10 for my future Lepton slightly used for $72. I read an article where they used this motor with the 24T pinion on a 3S pack and used the 4S throttle curve and it worked great for mild 3D and 10 min.flight times. Sounds like the ticket for me. What attracted me to this motor is that I can simply plug in a 4S without any further changes once I'm ready for serious 3D. It's a 920kv motor.

Any thoughts?

To be honest, I don't know this motor so I can't add anything to the discussion.

I forgot which magazine it was but apparently it was recommended by the battery supplier...I think it was Litestorm or whoever makes the Jazz ESC. All I know is that Axi makes good motors and the reviewer in the mag really liked how it flew with this motor and a 3S 3700mah battery on the throttle curve and pinion originally setup for a 4S 3700mah battery. He pretty much stumbled upon this setup when he was playing with different battery configurations. To me, it's the way to go because you can either use 3S or 4S without changing much else other than the battery and since I have both 3S and 4S lipos, it's a no brainer.
