Way to transport all our AP equipment
As you can see from the photo (which doesn't include any charging equipment) It is a little too bulky and cumbersome to carry with 2 people. How would you recommend carrying all this equipment? I was thinking a backpack but would love to hear from you all on what you use.

Cheers!

David

I use a little red wagon. Is that a portable DVD player? Are you using it to view your photos? If so how did you hook it up. So many questions.
Thanks,
Jeff

I see you are using an H5 Sony, I have an H2, I couldn't find the H5 when I was out looking. Can I use the H2 with good success, I am brand new into AP. Where is a good place to go (website) to find out what I need for remote control of the camera? Also, don't you remote view your video so you can see what you are shooting?

Thanks, I have the following equipment setup.

The Sony H5 is a great camera for AP and I think the H2 would also work well. Since I can't yet control the zoom fuction remotely, I like the higher resolution of the H5 as I can crop photos in Photoshop CS2 and still have high res end result.

I use the downlink photo previewer from http://www.rangevideo.com with the transmitter power through the Rx on the mount via a 2cell lipo and the Align Trex600 external BEC 5.8v (I don't use the 5.1v stepdown).
One thing I like about this setup is that the camera doesn't turn off after 3 minute when it is plugged into the preview transmitter so I don't have to worry about the camera turning off in flight.

I use a JR 6 channel aero transmitter (SX600)to control the tilt and trigger of the camera powered by the 2 cell lipo. This was the cheapest Tx package I could find with Travel Adjust which I needed to set the end points of the trigger and tilt.

The Rx of the downlink is powered by a small 7AH 12v battery that feeds into the DVD player for the cameraperson (my wife so cameraman doesn't work ) to frame the shot. The DVD player sits on a mount on the tripod. You can see this setup at http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11654 about halfway down the page.

Hope this info helps. By the way the mount weights in at about 4 pounds with the camera. So she feels like a bus when I fly her.

Cheers!

Also I brought the camera from Circuit City and brought their accident protection policy. They are the only store I found with this type of policy. (they say..?) that they will repair or replace the camera is I break it for any reason. All I need is most of the camera to collect. Like most insurance I am sure I would need to push them to pay out but it gives me a little peace of mind if I crash while flying with the camera.

Ritz/wolf camera do the same. As long as you bring back the busted up pieces. I think they do not cover fire though.

They will payout, I have used it before. They are slow to do it. Even though I made sure the camera was not repairable, they still have to send it to their repair facility so the repair facitlity can evaluate it and make the call.

I know others have waited 6-8 weeks for repair/replacement, this is the think they don't tell you up front.

David,
Seems like you would get some nasty glare on that screen. Do you have a sun shade for it? We use a similar setup and got a Hoodman shade from B&H.

BTW, is that your van in the photo? Quest?

Yea, I have lost my manhood, I now drive a minivan
I tried to move my wife, 2 kidds and father around in my truck but they got sick of having to spit out the bugs from between their teeth

So if I have to drive a minivan I thought I should get the best one there was. Hence the Quest!!

David,
Yes, it feels weird owning and driving a van but the Quests rock! We just got our 2007 SE in July and that thing is nice! Comfortable and roomy. We love it and it makes hauling our equipment (and family) a lot more bearable. Roadtrips are much nicer too! The GSR used to ride in the 4x6 trailer but now it gets to ride in the van.

My wife has been wanting a bigger vehicle for the last 2 years and she was leaning toward a van. After doing the research, the Quest was the one we settled on. So far we're happy with it. I'm not sure which model & options you have, but ours has dual DVD players with a video-in port. We can attach the downlink receiver to it and my wife can take photos using the DVD screen while sitting in the van. If necessary, the client can watch too.

Don't feel bad about your purchase.

You can laugh, but I tried to fit a friend's (non AP) Ion-X in my car, and it wouldn't fit in the boot, and we even had to take the canopy off to fit it across the back seat! At least my ghetto AP pole fits (just) disassembled and between the seats..

Actually a minivan makes a lot more sense for someone comfortable with their self-esteem

I should be careful what I say about age, I have two kids in college. Just heard a friend of mine died from heart problems and he was my age. Dam and worry about buying things for the hobby, I guess we have to do what we have to do to have fun while we can.

Hey! Hey! Hey! Watch it!

I've found that the older I get, the more practical I think.

Not meaning to lead this thread way off topic but it's a funny sidenote to the discussion at hand. A few weeks after we purchased our van, we were cruising through the park with our 6-year-old strapped in her booster seat and she loves AC/DC! (Don't worry, we don't let her listen to it by herself and we only play portions of select songs when she's present.) She loves the intro to "Hells Bells".

I looked at my wife and said,

"How weird is this? 15 years ago, we were doing this same thing without our child in a 2 seat sports car and not even thinking about marriage, kids, or a van!"

BTW, the Bose sound system is great in the Quest!

I didn't say anything about age (as anything I say would be like the pot calling the kettle black). Death sucks mate, but it gives us a reason to live life and we have to hope there is a reason to it all and that our loved ones are somewhere better than here. I'll be happy as long as i don't come back as a Blade CX

It's a trip how life speeds up a? but just maybe the reason why you have kids is from sitting in a sports car listening to AC/DC Great makeout music. I was a bit of a stoner so "The Doors, An America Prayer" and "Gun'n Roses" was my kid making music

Using a golf bag is a great idea and I will look into it, any other ideas??
