Hey, guys.
It's nice to see that this forum's up & runnin' again.
Someone asked where people are flyin'? Ya, I'm now in Southland these days. I haven't flown in a very long time (since before I moved down here, two years ago) & neither my Assault 450 or my TRex 500 have seen any air time, since I was in Wellington, in 2015.

Also, a lot of CAA's new regulations have put me off flying for the most part. I mean, I can understand where they're comin' from with the 4km radius rule & askin' permission of property owners, etc.

But, aside of that, in my opinion it's too much red tape that's gotten in the way of weekend flying at the local park. I don't know about you guys, but that's what it feels like, to me at least.

Is this thread still going?
Figured I'd ask, granted nobody else has posted since 2017.

Anyways, that aside, I got my T-Rex 500 back in the air the other day, after not flying for five years.
I'm taking baby-steps with it & having to re-learn how to fly the thing again. That & because the heli is almost ten years old, parts availability is somewhat dwindling.

Also, how's everyone else doing, during this COVID-19 pandemic? I hope y'all are keepin' safe out there.

The last time I looked on here it was drowning in quad copter posts. I haven't been flying for about 5 years but am just getting back into it. Anyone else still following this?
Is the NZ heli scene dead?

One would sincerely hope it isn't. I'm still flying helis.
Personally, I ain't a fan of multicopters.

But, yea, hopefully we can breathe some new life back into this old thread, eh?

Dead? Almost but not totally!
I’m up in blenheim, 3 heli pilots that I know of in the area. I’m the only one where I fly, the plankers are starting to take an interest. Most of them have a heli that they have previously given up on.....

There are still a few down here flying, couple at my old club. About 4 or 5 at Mcleans Island club I think. My friend and I just fly at home on his farm. Im keen to join my old club again soon, Ive got my 2 kids that want me to teach them to fly! That is going to be fun. Eva wants to go straight to flying helis instead of learning fixed wing first.

Heheh. Awesome. =^/.^=
I used to live in Picton for about two years & I used to fly at the Endeavour Park, there.

But, yeah, nah. I had a really nasty crash with an old nitro heli (my c.1983 Hirobo ZX Shuttle), back in 2008 over the Xmas/New Year period.
Without getting into the gorey details of that story, I don't trust myself with nitro helis; & from that day forward, I have been flying electric helicopters ever since.

(At the time of writing this post) I just got back from flying my T-Rex 500 over at the abandoned sports field. I also have my sights set on getting a T-Rex 800 later on this year, given my T-Rex 500 is almost ten years old & finding replacement parts are becoming few & far between.

I also used to fly an E Sky Honey Bee King 2, back in the day when I was first learning to fly. Also, I used to be quite "hot headed" back then ('cause young, dumb & bulletproof teenager :V).
