Hi guys..

Just about finished with my 7hv build, but hoping someone could give me some advice.

Running a sk540 with all hv electronics and separate rx pack. It has a yep120 hv on it along with hobbywing phase sensor.

Does anyone know if I need to run a ground between rx and esc for the phase sensor or not bother? Also - if I do - how?

i've never used a clone esc, but you do need to ground it.

For example with a hobby wing there is the esc cable, and a progamming cable,

You would use a servo extension cable, plugging into the programming cable and into your fbl unit or rx,

Remember to remove the positive (red) and signal (orange or white) from the extension cable e.g pulling the pins out and heat shrinking them apart to stop them shorting etc.

If you have issues with the skookum governor your not the only one. i believe there is a update which will fix this in the near future

Yeah, I've checked continuity between the programming lead and main pack ground, so good there. I'll build a cable between that and the skookum. Thanks for the advice.

What escs are you guys running? Spending the money on kontroniks or what?

Alot of the guys run castle or hobby wing,

a few of us crazy people use kontronik,

I've tried a few setups with the vbar external governor, nothing really comes close in my opinion, the downside is you will have less protection to prevent a fire etc.

And a few of the smarter guys run nitro

With some envy I've watched all the good folk around me buy new helis, new transmitters, gen-sets, electronics etc etc. My disposable income has been somewhat restricted in the past year with the purchase of a wife, house and dog - so new kit seems far out of reach.

But finally....

Yup, a new canopy for my old 500

I meant Sunday - all the excitement of a new canopy was getting to me!

Maybe I just need to reduce costs; I'd like public opinion on what people think would be most cost for least return - Wife, house, dog, heli?

Nice canopy Ian. Quite a visual upgrade for a couple of green notes.

This is what I have been doing saving RC cost...

Definitely doing quite a bit of open air flying. Want a vid?

Good to hear your still alive and Kicking Ian - nice Canopy!

Here is the other video from the tennis courts - I'm really enjoying the slower head speed 1750rpm w/ the 7HV

Got my 7hv out for its maiden this afternoon. How awesome! skookum governor is running sweet as, no tail wags - no issues.

My compass motor comes down darn hot though - I can do the 5 second finger test but just barely. Is that ok?

Congrats on the successful Maiden, always a great feeling to know you have done everything right. Not sure about the Compass motor but my scorp and hyp motors would take the skin off my finger if I tried 5 seconds:-)so I think you will be fine.

I'm sure Ray will be able to put your mind at ease, hell his come down smoking:-)so you got no worries!

Another 7HV in the air is a cool thing - hope you can bring it down to Hamilton in October for our next hit out!

sounds fairly familiar if you can touch the compass motor for 5 sec - I'm using a Savox BSM-5065 500kv motor which comes down cool after a flight - I remember all my compass motors use to be quiet warm after 5min 3D flights, but nothing insanely hot - you could always cut wedges in the canopy to get air flow to it if your worried?
Experiment with different settings via your esc - think I use 12pwm & 18 timing with both HW & CC esc for the compass SZ 510kv - I have the new SZ 485kv V2 compass motor, but have not had a chance to tinker with it.
