Here is a newsletter from Hobby City about the event.

I no longer work at Hobby City as I have moved down to Palmerston North to study at Massey University.

Hi again team...Can some one give me some input on this...

I have total g in my 6HV, with a ds650 tail servo...Went beautifuly... Crashed a couple of weeks ago.
Rebuilt...

Maidened it yesterday....bad tail wag!!!!

With gyro menu on my dx7, At 52%, (HH) Tail wags slow and wide.......and acts like rate mode
...Up to 90%, wag is fast and narrow....

Changed out ds 650 for a bls 251...wag gone....

Does this sound like a dead 650?..or would i possibly be masking another issue with the superior bls251?

I have been over the heli and nothing seems amiss.

I would have imagine the ds650 to just die, and not degrade as such....

Thoughts??.

Why fly RC helis? Because Rugby, Soccer and Golf only require 1 ball...

I remember the 3G unit and 780 gyro working flawless - had a crash - could never get it rite again - Degrade springs to mind in my experience.

Ive never had issues with Align servos - Except when I burnt out the 650 servo with a 8v setup when I didnt regulate it! Im not sure - chuck it another heli and find out if the servo has the same issue?
Just align gyros I have had issues with after a crash or 2/ maybe 3?

Ray we arent doing any F3C competition or schedule for the 2012 Nats - our schedules are only Clubman and Sportsman based on the 2006 NZ document. The reference to the FAI released schedules is for detail and definitions - ie what is a helicopter, how a roll should be carried out, an outline on judging philosophy etc.

I'll have those new documents I talked about above posted this week. But base everything it on the 2006 document for Clubman and Sportsman, and the 2008 document for NZ3D.

Corrari, i had a similar problem with my Rave and TotalG running the DS650, it would be ok in a hover but any fast flight, forward or backward it would wag. Swapped it for the BLS251 no more wagging, full throttle backwards inverted hurricane no problem Don't think the 650 matches very well with the TotalG as in tried 2 both did exactly the same.

2012 Nats Update:
- New docs have been loaded on the http://www.modelflyingnz.org/helicopter page for Clubman & Sportsman, and 3DNZ. These are all in the final throws of being approved but I dont see too many issues.
- Remember FAI docs are there as a reference and we wont be flying any of these schedules.
- Remember 3DNZ is not for a NZ title - it is being re-established, but should be well worth the fun of participating.
- Join up to the Heli SIG Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/helisignz for updates.
- Keep ears peeled for an incentive for to be 1 of the first 10 people to register and turn up to the Nats.......

More info to come soon, but will try to limit what I put on here and keep it all on the MFNZ site.

Some good footage here

That scream of pain as the turbine shreds the gearbox.

Boys on the ground including the guy yanking the rope were lucky. Looks like the seatbelt the pilot was wearing saved him.
