I dont know if you all have seen or have heard of this incident, but its a timely reminder that s**t happens and by the sounds of it - s**t hurts.

Dont let it happen to you. Dont do it to me, and for goodness sake dont do it to a member of the public in a public park

Yea...bad allright, heres the story from Heli Freak,,

...................................................................

I'll post a little bit as it is a good reminder that anything can happen and you need to respect the power in these "toys".

First of all, we have a bit of an informal after-work heli club at a local park where there's an empty 5 acre or so space. We just hop the curb and fly out a bit from the cars.

Jack and I were working on troubleshooting his VBar settings on his Logo400. He was sitting on the back of the car with his laptop out while I stood next to him discussing the leaning issues he was having. The other pilot out there was flying his heli pretty far from us, probably standing 30 yds away a bit to our left. At some point, I guess the heli ended up behind him and when he went to recover, the lack of a canopy and near-dusk light caused him to lose orientation. Unfortunately, even though he tried to just crash the heli down, once you've lost orientation even crashing in the correct spot can be difficult. Throw in that he noticed it was heading towards us and even pro's are going to have a hard time processing the situation and making the correct reaction in the fraction of a second it took to go from out of control to hitting Jack and I. Hell, I've frozen up or completely dumbthumbed my MCPX many times because it got near myself or other objects in my backyard unexpectedly....and there was no major danger involved.

Anyways, we didn't see and didn't hear the Logo (so damn quiet) until it was on top of us. Jack took the brunt of the rotor disc to the forehead and a couple fingers. I took the body of the heli to the left shoulder along with a blade to my left forearm, a blade to my right leg, and something semi-stabbed me in the bladder area. On my side of things, I was lucky to have my pocketknife (bent the blade/lock/clip), Aggie Ring (dented), and keys (blew up the keychain) in my right pocket to absorb the hit otherwise I would have had a major gash on my thigh rather than a huge bruise. All in all, I got away with a ragged 3" gash in my arm that needed stitches but just deep bruising and light scrapes elsewhere - no significant damage to the muscle/tendons.

Jack went unconscious for about 15 seconds but finally started coming back after we got him on the ground and found a towel to put on the gash. Those were the worst seconds of my life.

At this point, I'd like to thank the jerks that just stared at me as they drove by while I was yelling for help with blood flowing down my arms and all over my jeans.... Anyways, the paramedics came quickly and got things under control.

Needless to say, there hasn't been a lot of sleep for all of us involved.... I always thought this is something that happens to someone else. Stay safe people, you never know when you or another pilot will accidentally dumbthumb or have a mechanical problem that puts the heli in a position to hurt yourself or others.

Welcome to the srimok club, even if it is electric:-) if you haven't already looked I would highly recommend the build vids on the "other" site. The manual isn't exactly full of words of wisdom.

I am going to get cracking on the 2012 DUHSD this month.

Nick Maxwell is 95% confirmed, he is just organising flights.

I think the cost will be $199.00 for the weekend (some rooms may be a bit more) Everyone is pretty much going to need to share rooms so start geting your mates together and find out who snores.

The price includes Friday and Saturday night accomodation, plus meals from Breakfast on Saturday to Lunch on Sunday.

Once I have worked the budget over I will know what we have left to play with and will see if we can get another pilot over as well (poss Bert Kammerer or Bobby Watts)

I don't think we will do a traingin day on the Friday at this stage but will see how things go.

Yeap, looking forward to Feb, and should be a good showing of some new very cool toys/tech. 7HV, Kasama, Rave Ballistic!?!? updated rex's, and???? anyone else got something brewing.

Hey guys, cut Nico some slack!! He has taken on board "eventually" what people were saying, and the last thing we need is a repeat of the previous crap.
