Kick Arse weekend guys! As always the Wellington lads turned it on and even the weather played ball.

Congrats to all the prize winners and especially to Ray for winning for being 'most improved pilot' this year. Mate, your flying has come a LONG way from using training gear last year! In fact, AFAIK, you are the only person in NZ other than Jonny who can do reversing piroflips.

I am confident that with your new 3D+ you will progress even further - faster. You can fly more often with a 50 knowing that it is not drinking as much fuel ($$) as a 90 does. Enjoy it mate.

Thanks again to Cheye, David B, G2 and all the others who helped make this event possible. Thanks to Kevin and the other sponsors too, without them, these things just don't happen....

Ok guys, Wayne has sorted the date for the Rotorua Fun-Fly!

It is: April 24th & 25th and we hope to see you all there! We're trying to squeeze in one last good one before the weather craps itself for the season. So make the effort and come support the Rotovegas guys.

Hi all,
Just curious, I wonder, on auto-rotation, what is the best angle to keep the blade rotating?

It's not so much the angle as blade pitch. You want to be anywhere from about 0 deg to -3 or so. You can vary this along with your angle of descent to vary your forward/drop speed and requisite flare at the bottom. At around 0 deg the heli will fall pretty slowly making the pucker factor lower at the bottom. When the heli is dropping efficiently you will hear the blades make a nice 'fluttering' noise...aim for that IMO.

Ahh thanks, I read that it's important to fly it towards the wind to get the extra wind speed. Is it important to get the heli flying forward on auto?
I had quite a few out-of-fuel and flame-out landing and I have always try to land it asap ...... usually straight down with no forward speed and always a bad landing, bumping on ground, fortunately with minor damage, just some stripped torque gears.
With that in mind I was hoping to set a pitch curve on my throttle hold where I can pretty much keep the blade rotating all the way down, lol. Just a wild idea b4 I learn to auto the proper way.

Cheers for putting on a great event Welly guys, I must admit the burgers were pretty bloody good, George will have to give Neil Harker a bit of a lesson in gourmet burger cooking. Im not going to another fun fly that doesn't have bacon on the burger.

Well done Raynman I think you can sell your training feet now lol. I think another year and you will be able to teach Jonny a few tricks.

I will have to come down a day earlier next time and leave a day later so I'm not too tired to check out this Wellington night life.

It is going to be a busy month, Highbrook this Sunday, Hamilton the weekend after that then Awatoto and its all go in Vegas at the end of April.

Hey if any of you guys want to go to Coffs let me know ASAP I don't care much about maybes just the real men that are definatley going. We are booking all of the accomodation this week.

For those that didn't know, at the recent NSMAC funfly my 13yr old son Logan won a K3D heli. I ripped all the guts out of one of my 600Ns that he had been flying to get the K3D flying. He's been over the moon and more than happy since it's been going.

Last Saturday he finally "gave me permission" to take it for more than a hover and gentle FF. So I did.

It was FANTASTIC. I'm no Jonny but it didn't seem to matter what I did with it, everything was quicker and more precise than my stock 600. If it was mine I'd be toning it down a bit, I've been TOLD to leave it alone!

Nothing fancy in it either, 9452s on the cyclic, GP750 + DS620 on the tail, 1950 headspeed in Idle up using the multigov, Align 50 and 10% nitro.

For now I have to stick with my trusty 600's, living in hope Logan gives me another chance on his one.

MANY THANKS to Kevin and Jason for putting up the heli as a prize in the first place. It's a GREAT heli.

Cheers, Steve

Also don't forget guys funfly this sunday at Highbrook, great time to check out Auckland's most central flying field if you havn't already.
