Oh also, that Highbrook Drive site looks very appealing. 5 mins from my place also. very keen to see more details of that!

A lot use Pheonix but I don't have it so can't comment.
I have reflex and realflight g4.

Reflex is getting a bit older now....Pheonix would be better judging by the comments from friends on it.

Real flight is good for me because I don't have to use my radio...it's always hooked up and I just go use it....but....auto's are a bit too easy on it.....a sim should be slightly harder than real life to be a good sim.

Ask some of the guys about pheonix.

Reflex which I love but I have heard Phoenix is better. You can also hook up on line with Phoenix and have a virtual funfly!!
Reflex does have thousands of aircraft that you can download for free thou. Unsure about Phoenix.
Also you need to had a degree in Aeronautical Physics to set up the flight parameters in some of the models on Reflex. I dont might this as I find it fun experimenting.

Just my 2 cents worth.

just for some background. I currently use realflight G4. Its pretty good in many ways but Im starting to get a little sick of some of its quirks. the training modules are cool tho.

I like using it because I have a usb transmitter hooked up all the time. just turn on and play. Do you guys think using my DX7 for sim is gonna be any real advantage over cr@ppy usb tx? more natural feel?

I use to have the G2 real flight - that was cool! UNTILL I invested in the phoniex sim, Its GREAT! I really enjoy it! graphics are great - downloads are free - playabilitys good - cant go wrong with $225 investment with the phoniex sim in my opinion, online flying is cool - better when you organise your mates to jump on and have funfly - pump out some moves for them to see, which you wouldn't dare to outside Lots of fun.

I've tried both Realflight G3.5 and Phoenix.

Phoenix seemed to be more realistic straight out of the box. RF 3.5 was much easier to find a multiplayer session. Even with 56k dial-up it worked well if there was less than about 5 or 6 people flying. I'm yet to successfully connect to a multiplayer session in Phoenix.

RF hover training, orientation training and video tutorials were great features imo.

Which sim do you guys use?

just curious as to which sim you guys use? Im considering an upgrade.
Which is best and why do you like it? Comments appreciated.
I started with Reflex and now have Phoenix. Phoenix smokes it hands down. I have played with a few SIM's now and Phoenix seems to hose them all....

I learn't from pheonix and think without it I would definitley be a long way off where I am now.

Imo its a very good SIM, very balanced in terms of GFX vs realism and its easily tuneable.

One thing I have noticed now I'm doing more big air and FF menouvours the SIM's can't compare to the real thing, there is that sence of depth perception that is lacking in all SIMs that I know find a little wierd, workable but wierd.

Bloody awesome tool though for practicing moves and really realistic.

The main problem with all SIM's is that we tend to fly lower and harder on the SIM than at the field. Thus, all of the perspective of the heli changes when we're at 50ft vs. 5 ft. Best to try and practice just the way you fly at the field. THAT is what aids in learning your orientations IMHO...

Once you progress past hovering on the sim it really becomes muscle memory training than anything else. Like Jack said the depth perception and the fact that the blades are too visible make it less realistic.

I find some moves on the Sim are actually easier in RL but then there are others that are even harder in RL.

Hyper 50 Crankshaft Question
Is there supposed to be 2 small holes drilled through the small journal on the end of the crankshaft (the bottom of the con-rod fits on the journal)?

Mine looks like it could have 2 holes but they're blocked up - there is 2 small round marks that suggest there may be a hole. I can't quite see through the centre of the journal to see if there is a hole on the inside.

If there are 2 holes they would line up pretty close to the lubrication holes that are in the bottom of the con-rod. Mine look as though they are at roughly 12.30 and 9 o'clock when viewed from the journal end, with the journal at 12 o'clock. Make sense?

nope. Only lube hole is a hole through the crank before the main bearing and the ones on the conrod itself.

The marks you see will be the holes in the conrod itself as it has sat against the pin from your last flight...weird look but thats the way it is.

Phoenix is by far the most popular Sim now, they are just over half the price of Reflex and I think much better.

We get through a dozen or so a month and dont even bother stocking the Reflex any more.

Free upgrades is a bonus, the sim gets better and better all the time no need to get G1,G2,G3------G10987 LOL you will spend all of your retirement money buying the lastest version of what ever, so get the Phoenix once and for all, never pay for a new version again.

I have posted that GV1 to you on Saturday so you may get it Friday. I also found you some magnets and the sensor. I would install it all and then just check they sensor is working. Get Stef or Dave to help you out as they can be a bit tricky to get set up. Make sure you have good idel 1 and 2 curves in case the governor breaks down.

Who's coming to the Hamilton FF this weekend?

It is primarily a Plank and Fullsize event but Heli guys will get a bit of flight time too.
