I've got the grey gear now for my Raven. I have yet to tear it apart - what is the best way to get at that counter gear? It looks to be a major tear down?

Rod,

You can remove the top frames from the bottoms, and then remove the pinion and the counter shaft with gear will come out.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

Thanks Steve, I'll do that. As I was checking everything out, I noticed that the counter gear would actually pull away from the clutch bell far enough to not mesh. I'm guessing that a bearing went out, so I guess that means splitting the upper frames too.

It didn't come out very well. The bad bearing chewed up the shaft and left a good notch in it. The one-way is locked up too.

When you put it back togeather you should do the 3 bearing mod(ask Steve H)and make sure you locktite the bearings to the shaft too.

cookieult70,

I will do the mod - I don't want to have to tear this thing apart very often - Thanks.

mmmmmm.... Raven flies so sweet, speed up gear makes a bit higher head speed that makes it so crisp and responsive, think I run close to 1950 HS and wow!!!!

Only thing that I suggest as I had this problem is when you put the speed up gear in you better check your clutch. If your clutch is weak then you will know it after putting in the new gear, I had to replace the liner in mine. All I have to say is if you are wanting to improve the 3D performance of the Raven then go to the 8.73-1 gearing and get the red dampers.

Cheers, MM.

I agree with catzazz, the Raven does fly sweet. I too, am running at 1950. I just put the reds in this:

and have -10 to +12 pitch. And now the grey gear. Can't wait to fly it!

That is a sweet looking head, You will be really suprised at how resposive and crisp it feels with red dampers. I bet an all metal head will make it that much sweeter. I wish I could get a metal head but..... I really want a t-rex.

As for the bearing mod, I did it too (thanks SteveH) although I didn't have the wear that you did, I think with 50 hyper it is almost a must to have the bearing mod.

Cheers, MM.
