Busted the piston ring !
I had a great day at the field today (7 flights before noon) until I tried to start my rappy 50 for the last flight of the day, it would not start ! Busted the piston ring ! Replaced the ring and piston. The sleeve looks good , question is do I need to run rich, and break in the ring ?
Dimmit..I can stop this anytime I want..no..really I can

Yes Always With New Ring.
With ringed engines yes and run slightly rich to not overheat till fully broke in and seated properly after a few tanks then can you start to lean out. ABC engines need to get hot to provide the squish at the top for compression so they need to be run leaner to heat them up rings don't want that at all. Your ring may have broken because you have the engine peaked out to the nth degree. Try backing off main a few clicks to make it last long time.

I would be looking for the reason the ring broke. Abc engines don't need to be run at operatimg temperature to get squish, the piston does not get tighter when at operating temps. ChrisChris

Airdodger yes about squish.
Airdodger yes you are right about the "squish" tightness at the top of ABC engines as they are a "tapered" fit, piston to the cylinder, narrower at the top. What I meant to say is that ABC engines need to be run in hotter and leaner than ringed engines as they will not heat up and expand properly to break in and can seize up if not run up to temp. Different metallurgy involved in the pistons and need the heat for proper expansion. The "rings" need to be rich and cool to "WEAR" in properly, (lapping in) like in the old days.
Yes figure out what caused the ring to break in the first place.
