I've add all the major sims, reflex XTR, G3, Aeroflight, and the newest Phoenix sim.

Out of those the top two are:

Reflex XTR and
Phoenix - sim

Phoenix sim is about $50 cheaper than Reflex, other than that they perform equally well. Phoenix actually runs a lot smoother on my laptop and has cool water effects.

reflex XTR, G3

Real flight G3 lets you fly with others at a field....great learning tool. It also will show how much you suck...or how good you are, when you watch others!

I like G3 the best. Ive tried xtr, and ikarus, and to me G3 feels the most realistic.

G3 comes with a nice USB controller so you don't have to be wearing out or specially programming your TX. Now has pretty good photofeild (like XTR)

i own G2, used G3 a fair bit, and now own Relfex XTR. in my opinion, XTR is the way to go. you use your own radio, which is a little tricky to setup. but i find the flight characteristics are the closest thing to real life i have ever used. G3 has a demo out where you use your keyboard to fly a heli and one plane. but its a pain in the arse, its only good for seeing what the graphics are like and seeing crash debree fly everywhere.

none of them are PERFECT, but its all about getting your orientation, and they all do that well.

this poor old nag has been beaten to death in the Sim forum(where it belongs! )
new boy on the block is the just-released Phoenix.

The xtr supporters omit to mention that the "photofield"scenery is like standing in the middle of a big spherical mural. depth perception is very poor, leading to unexpected collisions.

Whilst the G3 rendered fields are less realistic, the clouds scud by, the trees move, the smoke blows..and your view can be mobile...cockpit view , or my favourite,- chase-mode....and you can explore several square miles on EACH of the supplied fields.
the down-side is the need for at least 128 mb graphics card and 1Gb memory with at least 2Ghz processor. you also have photofieldsif you want them....all flying parameters are tuneable to tweak to your desires...the supplied controller is supplied with buddy leads as well,so you can hook up your own transmitter to either "play through" or split the screen and have both controllers flying two different aircraft.

On top of all that,- Travis aka "vitek" is always willing to help answer problems/queries on the forum (he works for the program developers)

SO, my money goes for the newer, better-supported,better-featured,more flexible sim.

perhaps Reflex will get their cage rattled by Phoenix and bring the product up to scratch?

aerofly, G2, G3, CSM, reflex !

* aerofly has some fisics bugs but great graphics and good linkage to your TX

* G2 graphics are not good

*G3 has better graphics and multiplayer option but ( like G2 ) the linkage with the TX is not the best

* CSM is very old, works only with windows 98 and poor graphics but the phisics and realism is the best !

* Reflex...did not tested yet, but the graphics are very cool !

.
Keep it up...literally

Maybe in its day, but now compared to G3 and XTR I wouldnt say the best, nothing is "the best" for ever.

The physics in G3 feel the best out of the ones I have tried but on My system I am also running between 250 and 300Fps.
The other sims I have tried have been no where near that for frame rate so I cant really say that they are no good or that they dont feel right.
As for graphics I dont really care what it looks like as long as it feels right.
Also as for useing your good transmitter for a sim.... why would you wear out the pots in your transmitter after all they are only good for X amount of hours. It is very easy to spend a couple hours a day on the sim with the right tunes on. I toasted the pots on my G2 box and I know there is no quality in those cheap boxes but I would rather put 300 hours on that crappy box then on my good transmitter.
Just my 2cents.
