Anyone want some Salmon?! :) Went fishing on Lake Ontario..
My friend called me up Thursday and told me I needed to leave work at 1 to go fishing. Told me I needed to take the next day off as well because we won't be back in time.. Mmmkay... Not sure what he's up to.

So I leave work, and he picks me up and we headed NW. After a little while I realized we were probably heading to Lake Ontario - good guess

He booked us a drift boat for that night up the Pulaski river into lake Ontario.

Water was like glass - very calm, little wind.. Headed out onto Lake Ontario as the sun was setting..

As soon as it got dark we heard Salmon jumping all around.. We were trolling with spoons that glow in the dark.

Here was the first fish I got - a big frickin King Salmon

We landed 8 out of 10 fish, and kept 6 of them! It was an AWESOME night!

All were over 20lbs, the biggest two being just a hair under 30.. First time I ever caught salmon - and man, they go NUTS when you hook them! They peel the line out like 200-300 ft.. They're like mac trucks.. Insane!

Good stuff. The river the next day was doing OK, saw a couple 15-20lb'ers being pulled. After that headed to the Farmington river in CT to meet up with friends and camp Friday/Saturday night. Just got home..

Can't wait to go back! Those fish were insane.. Now I have like 40lbs of salmon steaks and fillets in my freezer Add that to the Mahi Mahi and Striper. I can run a seafood restaurant outta here

Good eating, you have to try it on the barbeque blackened.. I have a pretty good recipie for it. Absolutely delicious. That is if you like spicey food! No fishy taste at all.

God job on the fish Turbo.
The first time I hooked on to one, I was not anticapating that much of a fight. That thing about kicked my arse. Definately a fun fish to catch!

Blackened Salmon
2 tablespoons ground paprika
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon onion powder
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 cup melted butter
4 filets or steaks

Preheat Bbq to high
Mix seasonings in a small bowl

Brush fillets or steaks with 1/4 cup of melted butter, and sprinkle evenly with seasoning mixture to both sides.
Before you put it on the grill drizzle half the remaning butter to one side.
Cook butter side down until blackened 31/2 - 5minutes
Turn filets or steaks, drizzle remaining butter, and continue cooking until blackened and fish can easily be flaked with a fork.

Thats pretty much it. I usually mix that seasoning mixture up in larger quantitys so I have it on hand.
I have had it a NY strip as well. Just place your steak on the Bbq. Season the top side cook about 4-5 minutes, flip and cook to desired tenderness. I guess Emerald would say, Bam!! kick that steak up a notch!

I believe the recommendation from the health department here is not more than 1lb per week of fish from the lake. I think it's mostly because of mercury.

Damn just did a search!
Lake Ontario is second most contaminated just behind Lake Michigan as #1.

Damn Canadians.. We are already cleaning up your garbage here in Michigan.. Because you don't have the means or knowledge to dispose of it properly!!

That and we are consistently trying to clean up the great lakes..
So what is your country doing about it??

Damn Canadians? You've got to be kidding me. The Cuyahoga river has caught on FIRE several times, the most known event was in 1969. Much of the mercury comes from burning coal.
Basically, the great lakes were an industrial dump until the seventies, a free for all. Lake Michigan is by far the most toxic of the lakes, not likely caused by canadians. Most of the pollution in the great lakes is from the states.
Regarding garbage, Canada does have the means to dispose of it, but the states takes it off our hands for $$$$$. Isn't this always the reason that humans pollute the environment?
The good news is that the great lakes pollution peaked in the 70's and has been in decline since. The large, older fish are still not safe to eat, especially for children and pregnant women.

No pissing matches!

Just curious as to what is going on with the other side of the waters we share..

Yes spog, I understand the Great Lakes were a dumping ground in the 70's.. But since then we have stepped up to clean the waters which we once polluted..

Just curious what happening at the other side of them!
