In flight boom strike with Raptor 50
One of our club members has had two boom strikes while in flight. He has the metal Thunder Tiger head block and blade grips with the red dampners. This happened with his R50 while doing a tail slide, then R50 Titan with just a few flights on it during a piro-flip. What is causing this?

could also be that the setup for cyclic respons lays above 6 degrees and if U then do to much cyclic for the nick and skew on the same time as you increase the pitch you will end upp with a pitchangle that is a far bit higher than is good for the heli

Don´t ask me how I found out of this

Crappy Blades could also be a contributing factor.

Try cyclic Travel (Ail and Elev) at 80% with Throttle mix.
If you do not have Cyclic to Throttle mix and you attempt a continous flips/chaos, your engine will bog down. The blades lose energy and goes out of whack during the maneuver and eventually hit the tailboom.

I don't believe you can get 14 degrees of cyclic alone on a R50, only in combination with collective.QuickUK Team Pilot SAB Team Pilot

Stock Raptor 50 head is +/- 7 degrees for cyclic without binding, mine are set to +/- 8.5 (but i have a cyclic ring fitted) so it can't bind in the corners.

Maybe the transition of elevator to aileron during a piro flip, with to much cyclic pitch, i.e your thumbs in the corners, and more than 9 degrees collective caused enough binding to mometaraly slow the head down enough to allow the main blades to shift, i.e not tight enough.

Colin..

And to add..........

Longer blades, E.G. Titan 620's will be closer to the boom than your usual 600's.

The blades are 20mm longer but there is no addition in height of the grips so it'll reduce the clearance

+14 on the collective probably will bog big time.
+14 on the cyclic (is that possible??) will probably boomstrike as +7 is considered 'normal'
