Futaba 401
Guys,

Have read alsorts of information on the web about gyro placement. Could someone tell me under what real circumstances can you damge a gyro installed above the boom? (I'm not into 3D just aerobatics).

Can anybody tell me if they still run their gyro on top and have no problems.

Thank you.

If you mean just flying, no. I fly stock dampeneing on the SE and never hit the gyro with blades or boom.. even in a crash when it is placed on top of the frame on normal futaba double sided servo tape. I run my gyro on top and have no problems at all.

Thanks, I wanted to 'top' mount it, but have read all sorts of info concerning gyro's being hit by paddles in a crash.

I run mine on top too, but there is a chance of hitting it in a crash with the flybar, a friend cracked his case when he put it in, but to be fair it was in hard 3d, and not just flying around, or hovering when it went in.YRCHA CLUB MEMBER

I've hit my tail mounted servo in a crash.Put both my gyros on under the boom since day 1.
Replacing the 401 would add up the parts cost quickly.

I saw a picture of a 401 split in two by a paddle strike. Still didn't stop me from leaving mine on top though.

I think the main reason why I've never moved mine to below the body is because Bob White once got all down my throat about it.
