Ni-MH
I have heard that Ni-mh batt's for some reason are not good on heli's that have gov, gyro, digi servos. I realize the lithium ion are the way to go or lipo w/regulator its just that I have a 2000 mah 6v ni-mh that I want to replace my 1500 mah 4.8v ni-cd. I don't trust the 1500 since I had an incedent involving digi tail rotor servo die out (low batt) on the 6th flight of the day and I don't want to replace with ni-mh if they are not dependable up to at least 6 flights.

Im running 3 S-9202's, GV-1, 401 w/digi on a .37 Raven does this call for lithium? Anyone know about the ni-mh and ni-cd batt's?

I have 2 x 2000mah on my Raven 50 - running the same servo's and gyro as u. Raven 50 is a little tail heavy so the extra pack balances it well. I go for 5-6 flights max from a pack for safety and suggest u do the same.

U can use the li-po's and NIMH if u want - but i'm not sure how to convert and when it comes down to it, if the manufacturers say "DON'T" then your best advice would be "Don't" also.

There's no problem using NiMH packs as long as you use the sub C cells. The problem comes in when you use the small "AA" size cells. They have a higher internal resistance and can't deliver as much current as the larger cells. I've been using GP-3300 4 cell packs for years on my Evo 50 and they work great.

If you are looking for 6 plus flights on one charge get Lithium Ions and a 5.3 volt regulator and be done with it. I can fly 8 to 10 flights on my 4000mah duralite packs.Andy

I dont risk a forth flight.

In my raptor 50 i have 2x1400mha ( NiCd ) !!!

NiMh batteries are OK for Rx use but you need to make sure your packs are low resistance cells. Look for something like this, Single Cell Resistance <=5 Mili Ohm. A resistance around 20 will not provide the current needed for all digital servos.

1500 mah 4.8v ni-cd
6th flight of the day
I do that with my Sub-C Sanyo 3600mAh NiMH

Nimh are OK as long as their internal resistance is low. Stay away from those AA size batteries and stick with Sub-C.

I don't want to replace with ni-mh if they are not dependable up to at least 6 flights.
Before you get another battery,
You need to start checking and monitoring your rx and tx voltages as 6 flights is a lot for even hi capacity packs.
That way you can recharge if needed, and get a better idea how
much battery you have left.
The incident with the lo bat after many flights was completely avoidable
As far as the 6v nimh, the 401 and dig servo is not recommended to run on unregulated 6v packs.
I have heard that Ni-mh batt's for some reason are not good on heli's that have gov, gyro, digi servos.
There are pro's and cons to every type of battery,
IMHO, in general nimh do not output current or take a fast charge as well as nicads , but can be used if properly selected for yor application.
There are newer nimh's that are better at this and you may want to
do some research to find out more about batterys.
I prefer the good ol ni-cad for now.

You could build a battery pack with these 6A C batteries. Those are one of the newest on the market.

I build few months ago a battery pack for my Tx with MAHA POWEREX 2700 mAH AA Ni-MH accus. They keep the voltage up till 3 months. Usual reghargeable/accu Ni-MH batteries only keep their power up to four weeks.
The battery pack is with 8 AA's and it's voltage stays in 11.5-12V.

I don't think these Ni-MH batteries works in cold places (haven't tested yet with my fridge). There are Ni-CD's and the bad thing about those is the memory effect.

There are Li-Po's, but you know what could happen?

I just need to make some tests with the latest Ni-MH batteries to be sure of what temperature makes the voltage low. Winter is coming to my country. It's already +10-15°C in nights.

Does anyone know how good the Li-Po's perform in +0-10°C?

there are no wrong settings.. only different ones..

I know I should do some research befor posting this kind of stuff, but I'v found the guys/gals in here have a lot of in depth up to date info. I checked voltage on the GV-1 it said 5.0v, it's still no excuse I knew better. I wouldnt have flew so long if thier were people or buildings around though, I was just jonesin for another flight.
Raven 50 is a little tail heavy so the extra pack balances it well.
Yeah I had to put a AA 8 cell Ni-mh pack (weight purpose only) in my Raven 30. I thought about trying to incorperate a carbon fiber boom it would be nice if I could find drop in replacment.

Thank's All, Ike

I use the following nimh reciever pack from Radical R/C for my Raptor 50. Similar set up as you. 4-9202's and Gy401/9253. Radical RC 4.8V 1950mah 4 Cell 4/5AUP NIMH Battery Pack. It has low internal resistance as someone else stated is needed. Spec is Individual Cell Internal Impedance 5.0mΩ

Why buy?? when you can borrow and no return

Never had a problem with all digitals and Sanyo 3600mAH sub Cs. Get about 6 or 7 flights, BUT it really depends on how hard you work the heli and which digital servos and gyro you're using. Some are really quite thirsty and electrically noisy.
