X400 Main Gear
Hi Everyone

Does the Main gear and tail gear strip easily when you have a crash ?. Iam just about to order a full carbon X400 with metal head, which is just about all Trex, so all the replacement parts I will be able to get from my local hobby store. The only thing that worries me is these gears. It has a carbon frame but Iam sure it is just like the alloy one and the Trex main gear cannot fit the X400 frame, there is not enough room, is this true ?...
If this is true I will also order some spare gears....

Thanks

The gear usually strips if you crash with the power on.
If you think you crash, get a few of the maingears.
If you got time on your way down, flip the switch back to normal mode and pull the power off.

Thanks Celihopter

I dont think I crash much, Its just a precausionary measure..As no one in NZ sells these helis and I dont want to be freighting in some gears later.. I flew my Raptor30 for about 3 years without having one crash.. It really helps having a good reliable setup. This is my first Electric heli, Iam really exited about it. I can wait to fly in my back yard without anoying the neighbours..

If you can, set up your "throttle hold" switch so it shuts off the power to the motor. I can hit that switch very quickly instead of having to switch back to "normal" from idle up and bring collective to full down.
The only problem with that is having to do power off autos if you do want to do autos.

I've had three crashes that should have taken out the main gear when I hit the ground but managed to shut the motor off just prior to impact. Still using my original main gear after 9 months of flying with it (5-8 flights/week). I have two spares but have not needed them....sorry to say other parts didn't fair so well!!

I think the TRex is larger - it has 150 teeth vs 138 on the MX main gear.

Throttle hold for me as well. It WILL pottentially minimise crash damage. Sort of insurance to have it programmed on the radio.

I know it hs been a few weeks since you made this post but I just ordered the trex main gear. I heard that it is a little bigger like an 1/8th of an inch. If you have already tried how did it work? IF not I will try a let you know, I have feeling that I will get it to fit but I will probably have to grind down some of the frame with a dremel.

The Trex has 150 teeth on the main gear and ours has 138 teeth. Would have to change the pinion to match. I think the modulus on the teeth is the same so the number of teeth on the pinion is the only problem.

To all that were wondering I could not see anyway the trex main drive gear was going to fit in the non ccpm frame of the mx 400. Even if I tried to jerry rig it, the gear would of rubbed the tail drive shaft. Sorry
