Live camera view options besides Black Widow?
Does anyone have any recommendations on a downlink that would be similar to the Black Widow DigiLive system? I need a downlink that I can plug into the video output of my camera and not need to mount a separate mini-cam. I like the Black Widow, but I've been starting to have problems with it lately, and the customer service is not good.

You can try http://www.hicam.com.au/index.htm or MicroWireless but I have always had good luck with BW.

Well, it started with the cord they send - it has given me multiple problems where in each case the wire inside the insulation has separated and caused the signal to be lost to the monitor. I've fixed it twice now. Then, (this one's my fault) I broke the transmitter antenna. Can't find a replacement in town. I am assuming nothing else is wrong.

I love the Black Widow system, but it's really frustrating when they don't even post a phone number on their website. This isn't the first time that its taken more than a day or two to get an email response either. I guess that's ok, except when I have multiple jobs to shoot in a short period of time, and I have an equipment problem, I need to talk to someone NOW so that I can get parts FedEx'd or at least talked through fixing it.

sorry to hear about your problems -- I Started to use zip ties (tie raps) to secure the wiring from the TX so the wires dont get pulled from the box the force stops at the zip tie point

pic comming soon

to contact bill try RC Groups he is always there

he ships fast when you order stuff from his web site

but your right his support and Customer Service need lots of work

Zip ties are BAD news. I've been in aircraft maintenance for almost 20 years, and I've seen the zip ties people use to save time over using stringties literally saw into hydraulic tubing over time, causing leaks. And a leak at 3,000 PSI isn't something to scoff at.
Instead, try waxed dental floss to secure your wire bundles.

will BW repair thier stuff? I have a downlink tx where a wire has come off the board and needs to be re-soldered. It's not a faulty product, just broken.

Not sure if this will help you but maybe for future. I put a small bit of 100% silicone on the wires where they meet the board and onto the wires themselves then put the cover back on, acts like a strain relief and has worked great for me. My thoughts

I wrap wires with unshrunk strips of heatshrink before cranking down zip ties. Protects the wires nicely. Good near corners of carbon frames too.

tim i had the same problem,
then I just soldered the video out put wire on the the AV input of transmitter, and since then its attached pretty solid, and no more tension of forgetting to take the wire along, its attached to the transmitter.

i thnk BW is great, but their is a fault i design, if we rotate the av input the wire inside breaks up, just solder it so you dont need to take it out ever.

A couple of solutions for C-130. My downlink is 2 1/2 years old and has seen a lot of service. When the wires began to break at the board in the steel box, I took the steel box apart, resoldered them, then put the box together and JB welded over the new joints to encapsulate. JB weld is not conductive at all by the way.

When my antennae became worn I obtained a foot long SMT connector wire and made new antennae that are better performing than the originals. I got the exact plans and length specs for this dipole arrangement off of another forum, may have been RC-CAM, either way I can photograph and measure the antenna if you need to make one.

Good luck,
