New engine
My OS 50 SX-H (non-hyper) is garbage (the crank was bent, seems to have been like that for a long time causing all sorts of over haeting and tuning issues, oh yeah and damage!). So I have ordered OS 50 hyper.

Is there any thing I should look out for with this engine especially during break-in?

TIA
Marc

I've been in the habbit of letting it run for tank at a very rich idle, just to let the parts get aquainted a bit before letting it rev... not necissary, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Ok, this engine is very sweet! I ran a gallon and a half of fuel through it so far. Just doing some basic hovering (no loading her up) for 6 tanks. I've run her really rich (she'd only get about 8-9min a tank hovering). Then, i gave her a couple clicks more lean and ran her a little harder for four more tanks. And for the rest of the tanks I put through her I did a lot of power climbs, some yo-yoing (?) (full pos collective, full neg collective up and down in idle-up). I got some bogging on my climbs but I think it's just due to how rich I have the engine set. I'll properly tune her tonight and see what it's really capable of!!!!

@ 2 turns open, your heli can fly very well - that engine is just powerful.

Oh yeah, bragging indirectly about how hard you can fly the heli, eh. LOL

With the level of flying I currently do I'll probably get 11-12min a tank.

Is that a good starting point for the hyper? I'll read the manual but what do you suggest for putting around, fig. 8s and pyros. I won't be attempting anymore loops for a bit.

I run CP heli 15%. I used to run 30, not worth it for my level of flying.

Start at 2 turns, any more and they usually cool the plug too much and it cuts out at half throttle when it starts coming off the low needle.Andy

I started at two, but with the weather here right now it seems to be happy with 2 plus 3 clicks lean so far. I didn't really get to try it out though, turns out my feathering shaft is bent. So maybe tonight I'll get to try her out. She seems to be rich on idle so I turned her in a bit more, she seems happy now, but until she's in the air there's no point.

What plugs are you guys running in it. I've got the os8 in there right now, but I think I may put a a3 back in her for the cold season that's coming up fast here.

I'm having a real hard time getting a smoothe transition in the 2/3 throttle range (between the low and high speed). She seems to be leaning out just before the high speed takes over, but if I richen the low speed she seems to get too rich. Are they that finicky on the low speed adjustment? Because it does seem like I'm turning it that much, maybe I am?Love my life, love my wife but my heli is my mistress! :D

Pinch the fuel line while its idling. It should run 3 seconds before it picks up speed, if it dies open the low end, if it runs more than that before speeding up (or quitting if you hold it) its too rich.Andy

No, the bearings are all very good. I realized that my prop nut had come loose not helping my starting issues.

I'll try those tips and go from there. Now I see why I like electrics so much. Once she's tuned again it'll be a little rocket ship! From what I can see so far (and I know smoke isn't always the best indicator) is that she likes to run a little rich. I'm going to keep that in mind.
