Mysterious Rap50 tail case/pulley assembly problem
Guys, i'm having a problem with my R50 right now.
I was flying the r50 last sunday without problems for the first 3 flights without problem. Then came the 4th flight when i realised upon spool-up that my tail was locked-up. I immediately brought the heli home to disassemble and check.
What i discovered was that the tail shaft(being enclosed in the tail case)was able to move back and forth about 2mm , hence causing the tail to lock up.
I opened up the tail case to check. The tail hub was tight on the shaft, the tail pulley was also tight.
I had the idea that something came loose in flight, but after inspection, everything was in place and was assembled according to manual!

The manual shows that what's between the 2 tail cases is firstly a bearing, the tail pulley, and then another similar bearing.
Yep..i had everything in place and according to manual!

Weird thing is, I havent opened up the tail for the past 20-30 flights and all flights have been going well without any lock-ups.
Im totally baffled by this!

1 thing to note was that i was doing alot of pirouetting hovers that day, could it be that the tail case got worn out causing the the tail shaft not to stay solid in place in the tail case?
In the first place, is there such a situation where the tail case can get worn out?

I assume you confirmed the set screw that holds the retaining pin in the tail shaft is tight? It does sound like a strange problem if everything is assembled according to the manual.

To hover is divine, the alternative is rather PLANE.

The lockup problem you are having is due to your belt being defective. If you remove the belt and inspect each tooth, you will find some are actually damaged. With those damages, the belt will slip and cause the lockup.
You need to replace the belt with a new one.

You put your tail pulley together backwards

Review it carefully and look twice.
