Tail rotates too slowly..
My Raptor 50.V2 tail boom seems to rotate to slowly in one direction. I know that it will rotate faster in one direction because of the rotation of the main rotor but it seems way to slow in the other direction. I have full deflection of the tail rotor in both directions but it still seems to slow. I have a Futaba 401 gyro and a Futaba S9254 servo on the tail rotor. The tail rotor slides smooth and easily and doesn't bind at all.. Maybe I should try adjusting the gyro alittle? I am just to the point of moving to forward flight a little bit and when I try to rotate my Raptor at the point to turn around and fly back in the oppisite direction it wants to really lag behind in one direction.. Any help you guys could give me would be of great help!

Thanks

Did you by chance set the slider throw with the end points in your radio? If so reset your rudder end points to 100/100 and adjust the throw with the limit pot on the gyro.

If you already did that correctly, up the end points on your rudder, once you go over 100 do it in small increments, 5 percent or so and try it, adjust to suit your flying.

I know what the problem is... You don't have a tail servo installed

Nice looking Heli.

The less time I have the more I get done.

If you have the GY401, you have to go to your ATV or EPA menu and for channel 4 you have to increase it's values !

The ATV ( or EPA ) for channel 4 set's the piruet speed ( or tail speed ).

If you have a low value it will turn slow . If you inclease it's value you will get faster turns.

also check your head speed as this is relative to the tail speed.
if you increase the head speed then you increase the tail speed and will give you more thrust on the tail.

Thanks guys!!
I took your advice and went to the field yesterday and fooled around with the ATV a little and it helped a bunch! I still have my ATV set at around 50% because if I go any more the slider hits the end of its throws..

Thanks

put the ch 4 atv's at 100, and ajust the throw with the limit pot on the gyro it self, the piro rate will be alot faster!work hard, play even harder!!!!

Exacly !
´
Like i stated before...
The GY401 uses the ATV ( channel 4 ) to set the tail speed ONLY !
The ATV for channel 5 sets the Gain
For the throw limit you ONLY adjust in the gyro with the potenciometer called LIMIT !

.

It Works!!
Well, My Raptor works great after taking everyones advice.. I just finished tweeking on if for the last hour and a half and it will rotate at about three times the speed that it did.. It rotates faster than it did yesterday when Raptor XP and I had it out at the flying field.. The main concern that I had was that the slider bottomed out at the end of one side when the stick was only moved about 30 percent of its travel. Maybe this is normal, I have the limit on the gyro set all the way down and it still hits. That means that the Heli will fully rotate one way at 1/3 stick and moving the stick it any further will do nothing.. Thanks for all your help guys!! You too Jason!!

The servo movement relative to stick travel that you describe is normal, but if the travel pot on the gyro won't limit travel enough to prevent binding you may need to move your ball in on the servo arm or re-center the servo (if it is only a problem on one side).

Yep, move the ball in, you want the limit close to or slightly above 100, one side may hit before the other, set it so it does not bind in either direction.

Then once you get that setup right, you adjust your rudder atv's to set your piro rate.

Well,
everything was going good at the field on Sunday until the tail locked in one direction from the slider moving too far at 100 percent on the ATV. ( the gyro limit was set all the way down)I never knew that it would keep getting faster as it keep on rotating. Wow that was COOL!! The Raptor is pretty stable rotating at that speed!!I got it somewhat under control and got out of idle up and brought it down from about 60 feet to about 30 feet.. I thought I would wait until I ran out of gas since I haven learned to auto yet. By then I would try to work my way down to about 2 or 3 feet and set it down somewhat soft. Not really but better than from 60 feet or even 30 feet for that matter, but in all my struggles I wiggled the stick enough and the tail unlocked (just long enough to watch the carbon pushrod come off of the slider pivot arm). Well then the FUN really started!!! Well to make this long story short I ordered several parts last night about 10:00 p.m. from Helipros. I think I will keep the ATV down alittle since the 401 only has a limit on one side and the slider still hits at half stick on the other side. Well you live and learn and this is one of those things that I learned and I am sure other people have learned this same lesson too. Thanks for everyones help and I will see if I can get it right the next time!!

Thanks again..
