GV-1 - engine revs down before it comes up to speed...
I am no expert on the GV-1. I use one on my heli and when I hit the switch for it to come on the engine revs up (way up) then comes down to what rpm i have it set to.. anyway ihelped a friend setup his and just the oppisite happens... the engine revs down before it locks in on the desired rpm.. it really revs way down... i told him to be sure to never go to idle 1 or 2 that engages the gov unless he is on the ground because the head speed drops so bad before it locks in.. I am hoping to figure this out for him and assist him in fixing it....

Mine does something similar, although the headspeed doesn't drop to a level that would make it unable to sustain flight. When I hit my idle-up switch, the rpms drop a little for maybe 2 seconds before they climb to the set speed. I'm not sure if it is supposed to do this. It never posed a problem so i didn't worry about it."Learning from mistakes gets expensive"

A couple of things may improve your situation:

First, make sure your throttle curves reasonably mimic the headspeed the GV-1 is set for, especially if you toggle the GV-1 once the model is up in flight.

Second, go back and confirm that the limit settings for idle and stop are both reasonable representations of where the carb does both. If anything, the idle setting should be set at one throttle "tick" mark on the transmitter above fully closed. I've espcecially had this cause the GV-1 to engage erratically when you first spool the model up. Done right, the engagement is more seamless than any governor I've ever seen.

the head speed drops so bad before it locks in..
Does it lock in to the set RPM?

If the answer is no, this due to the fact that you did put BOTH magnets on the same side (north or south) on the cooling fan... GV1 needs only one magnet that is showing a 60-100% sensitivity on the GV1, the other one isn't needed... though if you're using it to balance your cooling fan, put it in the other side (one north and one south) so that a 0% sensitivity is shown for that one on the GV1.

Mine goes up a bit for a couple of secs and then it settles.

I believe the problem is with the way the GV1 "talks" to the servo. The response time is very slow. You will notice that it overspeeds when you are coming out of stall turns or in general when the blades are unloaded.

We have been discussing this issue some months ago but the thread is now burried somewhere....

its not the going up that is concerning.. my gov does great.. very little to complain about.. this thread is for me to try to figure out why my friends revs down when engaged for a couple seconds.. most people who have msg me have said they same thing that theirs rev up ... if it reved up this thread would have never been started...

my apologies, after reading the last post i made to this thread i realized thaT IT sounded snappy.. it wasnt meant to be .. just dont wont this thread to be the long lived topic of why a gov takes a couple secs to get to lock the rpm.. i would like to try to figure out why his revs down instead of up... it is like it goes to a very low speed that would be dangerous to be flying when he hit the switch.. even though it only lasts for a couple 3 seconds...

I do appreciate your responses..
