Dual Rate - Cheating?
I am flying a T-Rex SE in XTR. Doing pretty well, but having a hard time holding a steady hover. I just tried dual rates on my TX at 50% on aileron and elevator, and it is much easier (compared to 100%).

So, to the question:

Is this cheating? Or is it perfectly OK, since I could fly the real thing with DR as well, then increase it over time? I don't want to kid myself and make the sim too easy.

Thanks.

What is important is you don't crash it or hurt yourself. As you get better with the controls, you will later increase the dual rates towards 100%.

Definitely NOT cheating. This is what I call setting up to suit the pilot. Another thing you could try which will have a similar effect but without limiting the overall throw is adding some expo. Try around 20% and adjust it for your taste. IMHO, with expo, there is no point in using dual rates.

Great, thanks for the advice.

My radio is a T6XA. I can't see that it has Expo. The two limiting options I see are:

ATV - Throw Adjust (set at 100% for all channels)
D/R - Dual Rate Set (set at 50% for aileron and elevator)

Am I missing something?

Yeah, a radio that has expo. Now is a good time to tell you that you should get the best radio you can afford. I'm not sure how well that radio will be able to handle a heli(if at all).

I am in a bit of a time warp, being away from RC for 10 years or so. For now I am using my old gear.

The Shuttle has a Futaba 9VHP to go with it, but it does not work easily with XTR. I also have this T6XA TX. It does support helis and has a separate heli mode, but evidently they had not invented Expo yet I have no plans to fly with the T6XA.

If I can stick with this, I have my sights set on a T-Rex SE, with the Spektrum radio. I like the concept of not worrying about frequencies, especially since I will not always be at a controlled field. I could afford a more expensive radio, but am sold on the 2.4 GHz, with the understanding that if I move to a bigger heli or nitro I will have to upgrade.
