Crazy Animals, Ain't believing This Deal
Wife came back from shopping , on Wednesday. Got to the front door, and one of our outside cats is playing with something that looked like a dead rat. Ok, nothing new. Only this time, it's a very new, baby squirrel. Eyes not open, not a lot of hair, bare tail, like really new squirrel. Wife thought it was dead. Went to bag it, and oh oh, not dead. No visible injuries, so she brings it in. Warms it up, and wow, this thing moves. I get home, about 4 hours later, and now we have a problem, what to feed this guy. Goat milk always works wonders. Meantime, we have a mama cat, still nursing one. Got the bright idea to try the squirrel on the cat, since we were out of goats milk.
Checked on him this morning, and instead of being dead, as I expected, the little sh*t is more active. As far as I knew, he had not had anything to eat in over 16 hours. Sent wife for goats milk.
Now the squirrel was left in the cats care, I went to work, wife is in town.
Now I'm worried that he is not eating, so I call wife to make sure that she is taking care of the little guy.
Have you fed the squirrel?? Not yet! What are you waiting on? When she got home, went to get the squirrel, guess what, squirrel is firmly attached to bottom tit and feeding like my service truck , at the gas pump.
Mama kitty has adopted this little guy and so far, it working. Bathing him like one of her own, doing all the mama cat things and he loves it. Wish us luck.
To be continued.
Honey, where's the check book, it's Fedex again

Thanks guys: Guess we will call him a Cat Squirrel, huh? Looks a little like a Fox Squirrel, but lacking too much hair at this time for good i.d. If he makes the next 24 hours, he should be fine.
Since we live in the East Texas woods, we have had a little experience with em, but never this small. I mean, this little guy is barely over a week, 10 days max.
Most of em die with in 3 days. But the ones that live, make excellent pets.
We have a female fox squirrel that we have had for 8 years, biggest baby in the house. My wifes' number one pet.
I will keep you posted, so far, so good.

LOL, watch the squirrel climb the tree and then not be able to get back down because it thinks it is a cat!! You will have to call the Fire Department to get your squirrel out of the tree.

Now that is funny!

I'm sure I've seen this before on CNN or some news channel. A cat nursing and caring for a squirrel. Cool story. Post some pictures if you can.

We looked after a flying squirrel here for a year. It was in a tree that a faller/buncher cut down and it lost one of its paws. The operator of the machine asked my g/f and I if we could do anything with it - don't know why he thought of us. Anyway, we took care of its injuries and looked after it for a year before releasing it back in the forest. She did really well and we called her "Stumpy". It was cool watching her glide around.

Hope everything goes well with your critter.

Cheers, Shayne

Took a little video today, someone dropped my digital cam, so its' wasted. Will get my son to take some and post em. Hopefully this will be a long continuing story. Little guy is really cute, and loves warm hands. Mama cat is quartered under my right side computer desk, and right now, all three are wrapped tight and sound asleep. Squirrel is up, under her neck. What a crew.Honey, where's the check book, it's Fedex again

Ahhh...Jimco, I think you're becoming attached to the little critter. Just be careful because I think they imprint like geese. LOL

No Herc: What they imprint , is cabinet trim, shoes, sterio equipment, wall paper, pens, pencils, plastic cooking utensils, etc, etc, But damnit man, ain't they cute.hehehe. Last male that I raised, must have cost me over 200.00 to square the house away, after the little shi$ ran off one day, due to construction crew at my house. Scaired him , and jumped off my shoulder and hit the woods. Almost all squirrels in my immediate area were fox squirrels, at the time he left. He was a cat squirrel, 5 years later, most of the squirrels are cat. I know he is living the good life. heheheheHoney, where's the check book, it's Fedex again

Well, at least you have a good sense of humour about it.

I just spent the last twenty minutes trying to find a cricket that got into the rec room. It's been chirping for the last two nights. I thought it was a cricket but my brother said no it was the computer fan. Everytime he moved the computer it stopped. lol I told him it was a cricket and tonight the sound was coming from another spot in the rec room. Tracked him down using my keen hunting skills and caught him. Sure a lot of noise from such a tiny creature. Anyway, the problem has been taken care of.

So, would a half squirrel, half cat be a "squat"?

I think I'm in real trouble with this one. Wife is already calling him "Squirrel Baby" Little fart has been in my tshirt pocket for over an hour, sound asleep. This ain't looking good. Looks like my time is going to be limited , till the eyes open, and he gets on real food. Will post some pics, if he makes the next 48 hours. That is the critical time for these babies, so far , so good.Honey, where's the check book, it's Fedex again

Hello Tony: He has made it over the hump. 72 hours and doing good. Had to take him off the mama cat. She started rejecting him last night, so I have taken over. Little Shi$ slept in my tshirt pocket last night to stay warm. Put him on the bottle at 6 this morning, has taken about 6 cc of scalded milk. Wife made him a bed from kitchen hot glove and diaper. He loves it. Curls up in a ball and sleeps like a trooper. If he makes another couple of days, he will be well on the way, to new pet status. Needless to say, will be so spoiled he will smell bad from now on. heheheHoney, where's the check book, it's Fedex again
