Slow down gears for tail
I just ordered an Align 430 l motor for my T-Rex XL, will I need the slow down gears for the tail or will it hold up?

I havn't exploded any tails on either gears. Others have different experiences however..
the 430 L should work fine on your XL on the normal pinions, assuming your tail worked fine before.. Start with an 11T.

Is the 430 L that more powerful than the 420LF?

It is a better motor but your gearing(pinion)is going to dictate your headspeed and tail rotor speed.
Let me clarify..Your, KV, Pinion, Voltage, etc....dictates the rotor speed so if your concerened that by swapping motors your tail will act differently it depends, is the motor the same kv? If yes than its unlikely you will notice much difference in how the tail holds up.
If the brain was simple to understand, we would all be too simple to understand it.
