Installing Mechanics in 500E fuse?
I have a Hughes 500E fuse that I'm ready to install the mechanics, It looks like the tail rotor assembly needs to be removed, boom slid into the fuse and then reinstall the tail rotor on the boom. Does that sound right?

Hi Slider46,

I have the same Hughes body. That's what I'm going to do although I'm not quite there yet. After conversing on RR with another 500E pilot (Peewee), he said to remove the tail and push the boom through first. If I can find the link, I'll post it for you.

Thanks Mark that is the info I needed, I still have to figure out how to access the screws that mount the mechanics to the plywood. I really like the magnet idea for attaching the front canopy to the main body..... I guess it's back to the shopTom..... No "D" flying....

Hughes 500
I have been flying my Hughes Trex for awhile now. I just uploaded some pics to my gallery and they should be edited soon. I fought the tail servo mess for awhile and just mounted it on the tail boom. Great response, and at 20 feet away.... well, my trex hughes is a stand way off scale anyway.

Later, Terry
I saw an adult one time.....I was not impressed....I refuse to grow up....

I'm going to mount the bottom of the frame to the plywood by using a blind nut mounted on the rear heli frame (x400 aluminum) and pushing a hex head bolt up through a hole in the rear underbody. The front of the frame won't be hard to access as its pretty much open. I guess everyone does it a different way.

I feel you guys plight, but here are some photos to help you guys out on the Hughes500 (not just mine)
Tailboom: get rid of the flanges on the tailboom. You can cut strips of plastic to form a channel on the bottom of the boom and the boom can be held together with small strips of clear tape. There should be no reason to remove anything to install the body(Darth body, not sure of the others). The only mod that may be necessary is Tail servo location and custom making scale/scale like landing gear) Also align the tailboom to the main body so that the the boom is level with the main body.
I use the small screws to attach the nose section, The magnets are strong and so much in alot of cases its a bear to get the parts apart.

Darthdrk,
Thanks for taking the the time to post the pictures and tips. Every bit of infomation helps! One question, how would you mount your rear body halves? Are both halves assembled directly on the heli?
Thanks

Never mind,
I see you can push the whole tail assmebly & boom through the rear body and then add the boom section.

Heres my 500 with Revo helicopter landing gear struts. I used the align skids looks more of a scale look than the standard T-rex struts.

I too Have been stumped with installing Mechanics, Mine is a trex 450 x CDE , so Servos touch front. also trying to figure out how to attach that plywood base to body. To glue idea doesnot fly with me.

I have a blog on this project if interested here , i put some other tips and downfalls i ran into so far . http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...206#post6094974

hope helps others Here.

I am just pushing forward after tinkering with this for 3 weeks.
so I decided to just drill 4 holes in the side so i can adjust and tighten Belt properly .

the other thing that bothers me is tail boom bracing.
is it strong enough ? with no struts attached.

Thanks

JMD Body , JMD Strut kit , align Trex 450 X (short boom)kit with XL
Flybar control assm. align Heavy paddles
