Magnum30 versus CY30
For a long time now, I've been using Magnum30 in my machines. 50 Hypers and 91 Cspecs. I'm wondering wheather to try CY30 Wildcat. Has anyone got experience of both and what are the pros and cons ?

Not the 30% but 20% in a 50 hyper.

I was using Wildcat 20% and after every gallon I removed the plug for checking. There was a build up on the element that I will describe as a black bogie.

I am now using Magnum 20% and after 1 1/2 gallons the plug is completely clean.

Hope this is of help to you.

you're running the engine slightly too rich.

I accept what you say.
I run with the Magnum just abit rich as well. For me the Magnum fuel is burning cleaner than the Wildcat fuel.

I believe the Magnum uses a low visc. oil whereas all WC (except
for CY formula) use high visc.

that requires different tuning which is tainting your observation
of 'burning cleaner' and the creation of the black boog.

I will second what Z is saying, use of a higher viscosity oil results in a more critical tune but klotz synthetic oil is superior in my opinion to the un disclosed low viscosity oil in magnum.
Put it another way klotz comes out from the exhaust as an oil, magnum claims to have 22% oil which has very little exhaust residue - most of it burns up! Meaning it offers less protection for your engine than the 18% klotz oil in wildcat does.

But doesn't the CY30 use low vis oil?

I thought it was the normal Wildcat that used high vis oil?

After only a few gallons of WC 20% the bearings in my OS 50 hyper were rusty and worn out.

Having switched to Magnum it will be interesting to see how long the new bearings last.

Quote from Z "you're running the engine slightly too rich." What are you supposed to do if you are running in your engine?

A lot of people run their engine too rich to make up an inadequate cooling system, which is ok i guess. DOUGYOU ONLY LIVE ONCE..IF YOU LIVE IT RIGHT THATS ALL YOU NEED

Back on topic, I got a couple of gallons CY30 to try. I burned a gallon this afternoon. The first flight of the afternoon was with Magnum30 so I could set the needles to suit environmentals then moved onto CY30. Powerwise it seemed pretty similar to Magnum30 although perhaps the engine was a bit more sprightly. Apart from the smell, the main difference was that the engine needed richening up by 4 or 5 clicks. Sadly, the afternoons flying abruptly ended when one of the aluminium ends sheared on my tail pushrod. I'd only just rebuilt the head and engine, isn't that just the way of it though.Vegetable rights and Peace

Magnum uses a medium viscosity oil, around 20w. CP uses low viscosity oil. Most all Klotz oils are medium viscosity.
