Possible reason for tail drift???
This was clipped from a manual for a VisionLock device:

http://www.spartan-rc.com/products/.../visionlock.htm

The use of PCM receiver is recommended if a GY401 is used. This is because glitches on the gyro gain channel can be interpreted by the gyro as a command to recalibrate the neutral position (switch toggle 3 times within a second as described in the gyro manual).

I am wondering if the gyro will ever initialize in flight if this would occur. Doesn’t the gyro have to remain still to initialize or is that just so it picks up the correct neutral position? I would think futaba has some kind of timing circuit in this function which would not allow this to happen normally otherwise switch bounce could initiate recalibration on the first throw.

Sometimes switch bounce does cause re-initialization in flight, with terrible results. It doesn't matter if you're running PCM or PPM. You have to make sure that your main switch is ok as well as your other wires to the gyro. If you remember, in the Futaba manual it states that when powering up, the heli needs to remain still for initialization. That's why there is a problem if the power glitches in flight. The 401 can also re-initailize if the power drops too low on your flightpak.Gas is Great

the possible cause of tail drift is wrong mechanical set-up of the tail linkage rod. adjust properly the length of the linkage and then adjust the gyro to svcs mode. 401 gyro is one of the user friendly gyro in the market today. and make sure that it initializes first before starting the heli.

Shiro is right on the drift....I wasn't even addressing that question. I was thinking about a reset. If that happens, you will be sure to know.....it won't be a little drifting....more like a 90 or 180..Gas is Great

So the gyro will actually initialize if it is vibrating while the engine is running? What happens if it is not in AVCS mode?Ace
