Channels?
I am looking at getting a T-Rex 450 combo. What I am not sure of is how many channels are actually used on a normal setup. I am debating between a 6 or 7 channel transmitter as I would like to have one free for later uses on the heli. Does it use all 6 out of the box? Thanks.

6 will get you flying alright.

Buy the best xtmr you can as you will need it later as you progress in the hobby.

I think you should only use 5 channels unless you want to use a gyro that has remote gain. If you want you use remote gain you need to have a radio that supports remote gain. Something like the JR6102 is a great radio and supports remote gain. Just make sure you get a 6ch radio that does CCPM and you should be just fine.

Futaba's 7CHP would serve you well, and can likely be bought as the transmitter only, still. You can then get the specific components to suit your needs, with nothing you can't use in a T-Rex left over. Be sure to get a receiver that will allow you to use the 7th channel, if that will become important in the near future. There are other "just as good" 7 channel radios available too.

There's more to a transmitter than the number of channels, as the channels increase so do the features, mixes etc.Andy

I got talked into an Eclipse 7 with orignal order Even tho I wanted a Futaba, but it has cood programing and has Spektra mode too, so I'd say it's a cheap 7 chanel worth the money.

here's one to consider:

new JRP7622 7202

7 channels, with fully synthesized Tx and Rx. fly on any channel. great for those crowded parks.

I checked it out in person and the R790 synthesized Rx is small enough to use on the Trx.

Wow, this place is quick. Thanks for the replies. I am really enamored with the Spektrum system, but don't want to be limited by only 6 channels later in life. If I get any skill in flying, I would love to get into aerial photography later. That was the cause of my trepidation with only 6 channels. I definetly appreciate the thoughts.
