Need a starter...
Hey everyone,

I need a starter to turn over my OS 91 SZ-H PS. Also, I need it to run off of a 12v battery. What do you all suggest?

We had trouble cranking a 90 on the 12Volt flight box battery. We just went to this setup, I like it so far. I am using two Tower 1900 7 cell 8.4 batteries on mine.

A Dynatron works well on the big block engines. Your LHS probably has them - good news is that they also run on 24 Volts so you can really apply some power to them without burning them out.

Hmmm, i could try my drill but it's heavier and thus more stuff to carry. RC4stroker, is the torqmaster 90 or 120 in the picture? I have the 90.

Need a starter ?
QuantumPSI,
I just went and looked and it is the Hobbico 180 I used it to start a G38 when I thought airplanes were fun.
I also own the dynotron, but it takes the MA mount, is heavier, and larger. I do not know how long mine will take the 16.8 volts, but you only leave it on for a second or two.

Save time and money and buy a Sullivan Dynatron.
I bought other starters none of which would turn my os90 then i bought a dynatron it does the job easy and can do 24v as well.
Should have bought one the first time and saved some money.

You can get a drill for less than $50 and they will last for ever and you don't have to do all that crazy stuff with batteries. My drill can turn over my car engine...os 90 is like a toy...

I Got one of those Helimax gear reduction/twin540 motors/ black molded plastic starters with the 2 buttons(sorry, I'll look for a link) for $35 at a local hobby shop and topped it with $30 worth of cheap 6-cell 1500Mah packs. It proved this weekend no problem starting a new OS 91 and even my warmed up Z231 gasser on packs that had been charged a month ago..Don't know about durability yet.., But its sure got some torque!Take heed in thy rotor speed, Lest the Earth reach up and smacketh thee!!

Remind us of this the first time it's flooded real good and you put the drill to it. With the money a drill saves you, you could afford to carry an extra connecting rod or three.
