What does it mean when the bottom of your motor falls out of the it's case?
Has this happened to anyone before?

I was flying in the drive today and had a slight glitch, decided to land and then the heli made an awful sound, gringing and crunchy. Put it into throttle hold and unplugged the battery. To my suprise the bottom of the motor decided to come out of its case, and when it did it ate the main gear. It's the align 3550 gold head motor. The only thing keeping it from completley coming apart is the pinion on the main shaft.

WTF??????

I was running an 11T pinion on a tp 2100pl pack at 75% throttle hold.
and castle 35 esc.

Should I try to reassemble or do you think its toasty? (It did feel kinda warm even with the heatsink installed).

If not what motor is the best bang for the buck mega 16-15-3? Another align (the new silver one (anyone know the KV on it?)).

This happened on some of the earlier motors. I took mine apart and drilled two 1mm holes through the bell and inner, cleaned up, reassembled and soldered 1mm steel pins through it.

You can try, you have nothing to loose. The motor might still be ok.

Mine is still working 20 hours later

This is a known issue with the gold head 430L motors. You need to drill 2 holes in the top AND bottom of the case, and pin the caps into the motor using some CA and some small pieces of wire. I did this one mine and haven't had a single issue. The silver cap version is fixed.

Was also a problem with the 400Ls. At some point during the development of the 430 they threaded it.

It's toast!!
On closer inspection the magnetic bars are broken on the rotating part of the case... Junked!!!

Anybody have a spare mega 16-15-3 they want to get rid of?

Himax 2815-3000 is a less expensive alternative to the 16-15-3. At least it used to be.

Some people swear by the 430s. Others won't touch them with a 10 foot pole. From everything I've read there appears to be a good 20% gap in performance depending on what day of the week your motor rolled off the assembly line or which QC rep was on duty.
